Travel/Contract Registered Nurse (Med Surg)
Location: Utica, New York
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Medical Surgical unit
- Typical patient ratios:
- Days: 1:5-6
- Nights: 1:6-7
- Return to Office (RTO): Only one holiday off, total time off 7 days or less
- Local radius: 75 miles
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York
- Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Harassment Prevention Training Certificate (New York state requirement)
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Certifications & Training Requirements
- BLS (AHA strongly preferred)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA strongly preferred
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA strongly preferred
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - required for ER staff only
- NIH Stroke Certification (if assigned to ICU, PCU, ER, CT ICU, or 7th Floor Med/Surg unit)
- Competency exams as applicable, including:
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (required for ICU, PCU, ER, CT ICU, 7th Floor Med/Surg)
Health & Compliance Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Fit mask test within 1 year and updated annually (specific mask types required)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (PPD, Quantiferon Gold acceptable; Tspot not accepted)
- Immunizations or positive titers required for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (titer, declination, or vaccine series)
- Varicella (positive titer, vaccine, or history of chickenpox)
- 9 Panel Drug Screen within 1 year of start
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (Sept 1 - Mar 31)
- Pneumonia vaccination or declination required
Additional Requirements
- Government issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
- Emergency contact form prior to start
- Background checks including 7-year search, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, education verification
- Education verification and Florida Education Audit Confirmation (RN only)
- Completion of facility-specific online learning modules prior to first shift
- Photo for badge (headshot, plain background, no head coverings)
- Signed facility-specific job description and welcome packet acknowledgment
- References:
- 2 professional references for travel, allied, or per diem acute care
- 1 professional reference for per diem non-acute care
- Annual skills checklist
