Pediatric Stepdown Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Provide nursing care in a pediatric cardiac stepdown unit.
- Patient diagnoses include cardiac defects (medical and surgical).
- Care involves tracheostomies, ventilators, high flow nasal cannula, post-op catheterizations, post-op care after CTICU, inotropes, and heart and lung transplant patients.
- Work schedule includes every other weekend.
Required Qualifications
- Current Ohio RN license in hand (must be Ohio State or Compact RN license).
- Minimum 2 years of pediatric cardiac stepdown nursing experience.
- Two professional references required at time of submission; one must be a manager or supervisor (Charge RN acceptable as one reference). Peer references are not accepted.
- Current government-issued photo ID matching legal name on RN license and certifications.
- Negative 9-panel drug screen within 60 days prior to start.
- Required certifications:
- ACLS (American Heart Association only)
- BLS (American Heart Association only)
- PALS (American Heart Association only)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) if applicable
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) if applicable
- ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course) if applicable
- Required health documents:
- Up-to-date physical exam (within 1 year) or signed Infection Control Policy in lieu of physical exam.
- TB testing: Two PPDs or IGRA (QGOLD/TSPOT) within 12 months; additional requirements if positive.
- Immunizations:
- TDAP vaccine within 10 years (no titer substitution accepted)
- MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) positive titer or 2 vaccines; no religious exemptions accepted
- Hepatitis B series completion, positive titer, or declination accepted
- Varicella positive titer or 2 vaccines
- Annual flu vaccine required during flu season (Oct 31 - May 31); medical/religious exemptions require facility approval and mask wearing during flu season.
- N95 fit testing required within 1 year of start and updated annually; acceptable mask models specified. Candidates unable to complete prior to start may test onsite with proof of appointment.
- Background checks and verifications required within 30 days of start:
- 7-year criminal background check including all counties lived/worked
- Education verification through National Student Clearinghouse or equivalent
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
- Sex offender search
- Ohio Nurse Aide Registry, Inmate Registry, Medicaid Exemption, and Abuse Registry searches
- Fingerprinting (OH BCI/FBI) within 60 days of start, must be updated for each new contract
- Skills checklist specific to unit required and must be updated annually.
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam and other competency exams as applicable.
Additional Information
- Legal name on all documents must match RN license and certifications exactly; no nicknames or maiden names.
- Fingerprinting must be completed within 24-48 hours of signing contract; results can pend at start if facility completes onsite fingerprinting.
- Candidates undergoing name changes must provide proof and may require approval.
- Ohio driver’s license holders with an address within 60 miles of the facility will be considered local and may not qualify for travel status.
- Candidates with positive TB or drug screen results must follow additional facility-specific protocols.
- Candidates must comply with infection control policies and complete required facility-specific documents prior to start.
