Behavioral Health Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract

Location: Big Spring, Texas
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 AM - 8:00 PM)
Hours per Week: 36


Job Description

  • Provide nursing care on an Adult Inpatient Behavioral Health Unit
  • Patient-to-nurse ratio approximately 1:8
  • Every Other Weekend (EOW) schedule
  • Float within scope of practice as needed
  • Start date expected within 3-5 weeks from hire

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum 2 years of Behavioral Health nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC)
  • Prior travel nursing experience

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID) with consistent legal name across all documents
  • Social Security Card with consistent legal name
  • E-Verify or Attestation completed
  • 7-year Background Check completed within 30 days of start (statewide, federal, education verification, international search if applicable)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
  • Education Verification or diploma as placeholder if pending
  • NURSYS license verification within 30 days of start
  • Facility-specific forms including but not limited to:
    • Non-Employee Information Form
    • Vaccine Exemption Form (if applicable)
    • Applicant Health Record Form
    • Code of Conduct and Compliance Form
    • Confidentiality Statement Form
    • Information System Security Agreement Form
    • Traveler Orientation Acknowledgement
    • Hepatitis B Declination (if no positive titer)
  • Clear, passport-style photo for badge

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, must be completed within 72 hours of contract signing
  • Fit mask test within 6 months prior to start; annual updates required (accepted masks: 3M 1860 and 1860S)
  • Immunizations and titers required within 72 hours of contract signing:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within 1 year; chest X-ray if positive TB responders)
    • Measles (Rubeola) - positive titer or 2 vaccines (boosters if negative/equivocal)
    • Mumps - positive titer or 2 vaccines (boosters if negative/equivocal)
    • Rubella - positive titer or 2 vaccines (boosters if negative/equivocal)
    • Hepatitis B - positive titer or completed series, or signed declination form
    • Varicella - positive titer, 2 vaccines, or proof of disease (boosters if negative/equivocal)
  • Drug testing required within 30 days of start (includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoid, cocaine, opiates, phencyclidine, methadone, propoxyphene)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or facility-specific declination form required during flu season (Oct 31 - Mar 31)
  • Initial COVID-19 vaccination series required (boosters not required)

Additional Requirements

  • Pass/fail testing during orientation covering medication administration, restraint, and glucometer use (remediation offered same day if needed)
  • Medication/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
  • Two professional references within 3 years of start
  • Resume or employment application copy required
  • Annual updates required for certain documents and competencies
