Registered Nurse – Med Surg Oncology (Travel/Contract)
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Contract Length: 16 weeks
Job Summary
- 12-hour day/night rotating shifts (may include days, nights, or combination based on staffing needs)
- Patient population primarily includes oncology patients with soft tissue malignancies receiving chemotherapy, diagnostic services, and symptom management
- Continuous cardiac monitoring related to chemotherapy administration
- Focus on infection prevention protocols and patient fall prevention
- Management of comorbidities and symptom management secondary to disease or treatment progression
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Ohio
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 2 years of Med Surg / Telemetry nursing experience, including telemetry experience within the last year
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Clinical Skills Required
- Interpretation of dysrhythmias
- Accessing ports
- Arterial line management
- Blood product administration
- Central line and PICC line care/management
- IV starts
- Assist with chest tube insertion/removal
- High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC) management
- Interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs)
Equipment Used
- GE telemetry system (B450 monitors)
- Bladder scanner
- Alaris infusion pumps
- Stryker beds
Shift Details
- 12-hour shifts, 3 shifts per week
- Day shift: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM
- Night shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including SS trace, counties lived/worked, nationwide check, sex offender registry, and motor vehicle record if driving is required
- FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 1 year of start; must be completed using specific code for home health agency
- Education verification from accredited nursing programs (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA) required
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring
- Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, methadone, methaqualone, opiates, PCP, propoxyphene)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
- Fit mask testing required annually for inpatient/patient-facing roles starting 7/13/2026 and beyond
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
- TB questionnaire annually
- MMR (2 vaccines or positive titers for measles, mumps, rubella)
- Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
- Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer; medical exemptions require documentation)
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination required during flu season (10/1 – 3/31); decliners must wear a mask
- COVID vaccination not required but strongly recommended
Certifications
- BLS (AHA Instructor/Provider or RQI acceptable)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (minimum passing score 76%)
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam required prior to start
- Unit-specific competency exams as applicable
Additional Requirements
- Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager or formal leadership (charge RN acceptable as second reference)
- Employment application required, including education verification for nursing candidates
- Skills checklist required
- Annual orientation safety manual acknowledgement
- Compliance with dress code and hand hygiene policies
- Completion of fraud, waste, and abuse training certificate prior to start and updated annually
- Ethics and compliance policies must be reviewed and acknowledged annually
This position offers a challenging oncology med-surg nursing role with a focus on telemetry monitoring and complex patient care in a rotating 12-hour shift format. Candidates should be comfortable with advanced line management, dysrhythmia interpretation, and working in a fast-paced oncology environment.

Units are nice, staff are kind. Single patient rooms with 4:1 ratios day and night on med surg.
Cons
Scheduled every weekend, floated for the first 6 weeks of contract every shift. Not traveler friendly even though they say they are. Staff are treated well not travelers.
