Medical Surgical Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract

Location: Dayton, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours

Unit & Patient Population

• 23-bed unit caring for Medical Surgical Orthopedic patients
• Common cases: traumatic hip fractures, elective spine surgeries, traumatic orthopedic injuries
• Care includes pre/post-surgical orthopedic management with heart monitors, drains, PCA pumps, and Ketamine drips
• Also provides care for medical-surgical overflow patients
• Unit uses a team nursing model partnering RNs, LPNs, and PCTs to share workload and patient care
• Nurses may function in team nursing or primary nursing depending on unit needs
• Uniform: Navy blue scrubs

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
• Minimum 1 year of Medical Surgical nursing experience, with recent Med Surg experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Strong competency and experience using the orthopedic checklist
• Experience with EPIC electronic health record system

Certifications & Competencies

• Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam within 2 years of start
• Unit-specific competency exam within 2 years prior to start
• Background checks including 7-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, and HHS/OIG required
• Physical exam within 2 years indicating fitness for work and free of communicable diseases
• Negative drug screen (9 or 10 panel including marijuana) within 12 months prior to documentation due date
• Annual flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season
• Respiratory safety clearance required within 1 year of start and renewed annually
• Two professional references within 2 years required (one must be a manager/supervisor/charge RN) or employment verification if references unavailable
• Skills checklist updated within 1 year prior to documentation due date

• Government-issued photo ID required
• E-Verify compliance required prior to start
• Proof of name change documentation if applicable
• Background check must include SSN trace, national or all states check for last 7 years, all counties for last 7 years, and national sex offender registry
• Fingerprinting not required for this unit
• Candidate must submit a medical questionnaire for respiratory protection prior to orientation
• Candidate agreement form must be fully completed prior to documentation due date
• Current resume/application required at time of submission

Work Environment & Policies

• 36 or 48-hour contracts available; overtime paid after 48 hours for 48-hour contracts
• Employer reserves the right to cancel up to 2 shifts per 13-week contract due to low census with 2 weeks’ notice without penalty
• Travelers are not eligible for employee incentives
• Floating assignments will be medically appropriate and may include multiple campuses within the health system

This position is ideal for experienced RNs with orthopedic and trauma experience seeking a travel contract in a Level 1 trauma center environment with night shifts and team nursing model.
