NICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - Farmington, Connecticut


Position Overview

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (NICU)
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Location: Farmington, Connecticut
  • Shift Options:
    • Night Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
    • Day Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
  • Hours per week: 36 hours
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Work Schedule Notes:
    • Every other weekend and every other holiday required
    • Participation in a mandatory 4-hour shift at the end of the original shift on a rotating basis (details discussed during interview)

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Connecticut
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum of 1 year of NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care) experience within the last year
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license or passport (clear copy front and back)
  • Background checks within 30 days of start, including:
    • 7-year search with aliases
    • SS Trace, Counties, Nationwide, Statewide, National Sex Offender, OFAC
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
  • Education verification (diploma acceptable as placeholder)
  • Copy of current Connecticut nursing license (must match name on I-9)
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start, signed by NP, PA, or MD, confirming ability to work full day without restrictions
  • Respiratory fit mask test annually (specific acceptable masks listed)
  • Immunizations and titers:
    • Tdap vaccine within 10 years (no declinations accepted)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (with additional documentation if prior positive)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: positive titer or proof of 2 vaccines; negative titer requires boosters
    • Hepatitis B: positive titer, series, or signed declination
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption (facility-specific forms required)
  • Drug testing: 10-panel within 30 days of start, updated annually
  • References: Two references within past 2 years, both supervisors
  • Employment application: Must include 7 years of employment history with explanations for gaps
  • Work history verification for last 7 years (attestations accepted case-by-case)
  • Skills checklist updated within 1 year of start and annually thereafter

Competency and Training Requirements

  • Competency exam with 80% or higher within a year of start
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (required for Telemetry, Stepdown, ICU, ER) with 80% pass rate
  • Annual completion of Core Part I, II, and III training
  • OSHA mandatory training updated annually
  • HIPAA competency or HIPAA acknowledgement form annually
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training not required (only for psych positions)

Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Photo for badge (chest up, solid background, no others in photo)
  • Signed confidentiality agreement, code of conduct, conflict of interest, and contractor checklist prior to start
  • Pediatric medication calculation exam required for all RNs
  • Background information sheet and background check authorization specific to the NICU facility

  • The role requires flexibility for weekend and holiday coverage and participation in rotating extended shifts.
