Job Opportunity: Histology Tech

Location: Chicago, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day shift, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, 8:00 AM – 2:00 PM (3 shifts per week, 7.5 hours each)

Job Description

• Perform histology laboratory duties.
• Mohs experience is required.
• Minimum 1 year of experience in the specialty.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of experience as a Histology Technologist, including recent experience within the last year.
• Mohs experience.
• Valid license or certification appropriate for Histology Tech.
• Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID).
• Background check within 30 days prior to start, covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years, including SSN trace, national criminal database, global terrorist search, sex offender registry, alias search, and FACIS Level 3.
• E-Verify compliance required.
• Physical exam within 1 year of start, confirming fitness to work without restrictions.
• Drug test (9-panel, excluding marijuana) within 90 days of start; must include nitrate and creatinine levels.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA only).
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification (AHA only) – consult unit description for requirement.
• Other certifications as applicable to the role.
• Illinois Department of Public Health fingerprinting and registry for patient-facing candidates without an Illinois state license.
• Completion of facility-specific forms including contractor data form and any required declination forms (e.g., Hepatitis B, Tdap).
• Mandatory Illinois reporting training for all clinical patient-facing/in-person positions (valid for 3 years).
• Immunization and health requirements:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine (valid 10 years; declination accepted with prior vaccination record and signed form).
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray with appropriate documentation; TB questionnaire annually.
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccines or positive IgG titers; low titers require additional vaccination.
  • Varicella vaccine or positive IgG titer; low titer requires additional vaccination.
  • Hepatitis B surface antibody titer; if negative, must complete vaccine series or sign declination form.
• Annual flu vaccination documentation or approved medical/religious exemption.
• Skills checklist and competency exams as applicable.

Additional Requirements

• Must provide 2 professional references within 3 years (for direct hire).
• Employment application must include 7 years of employment history with explanations for gaps over 30 days.
• Must complete all required facility-specific and state-mandated documentation prior to start.

Notes

• Fingerprinting must be completed in Illinois; out-of-state fingerprinting is not accepted.
• Drug screen must be initiated within 24-48 hours of offer acceptance.
• Some certifications and requirements may vary based on specific unit or department; consult unit description as needed.
