Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Shift: Night (4 shifts of 12 hours each, 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Work in a high-risk, high-acuity Labor & Delivery (L&D) unit with an average daily census of 15 patients and 500-600 deliveries per month.
• Float responsibilities include Postpartum and Antepartum care, with possible float to sister facilities providing Mother/Baby care.
• Unit includes 4 operating rooms and 31 beds/rooms.
• Patient population includes midwifery clients, private OB patients, adult recovery services (substance recovery), and community care clinics.
• Use of EPIC electronic medical records and electronic fetal monitoring is required.
• Staffing follows AWHONN guidelines.
• Functions include acting as Baby Nurse during delivery and providing newborn care until transfer to postpartum.
• Must be able to circulate in the OR and provide newborn care including eye care, Vitamin K injections, and newborn assessments.
• Medication administration experience required with Heparin, Insulin, and Magnesium Sulfate.
• Work schedule posted every 6 weeks; work every other weekend and holidays as needed. Pre-approved time off considered case-by-case.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Washington State.
• Minimum of 3 years of Labor and Delivery nursing experience, with experience within the last year.
• Experience working with high-risk patients.
• At least 2 years of experience in a high-acuity, high-pace environment.
• Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation.
• Current PALS certification issued by the American Heart Association or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation.
• Current NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
• Experience using EPIC electronic medical records system.

Health and Compliance Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO, indicating ability to work with or without accommodation.
• Immunizations and screenings required:

  • TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months.
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years (declination accepted).
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer.
  • Varicella vaccination or positive titer.
  • Hepatitis B vaccination series or signed declination.
  • Seasonal flu vaccine during flu season (declination accepted).
  • COVID-19 vaccination record preferred; declinations not required but unvaccinated must follow infection prevention protocols.
• 9-panel drug screen within 12 months of start (instant acceptable).
• Respiratory safety clearance required annually for respirator use (travel only).
• Fit mask testing required for travel candidates (updated annually).

Background and Documentation

• Background check within 90 days of start covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years; must include SSN trace, death master index, sex offender registry, education verification, and other checks as applicable.
• Education verification required for nursing degree; international education requires transcript/diploma or CES report.
• Employment application covering at least last 5 years required.
• Skills checklist updated annually for applicable units.
• Photo for badge required (passport style with neutral background).
• Completion of annual regulatory and specialty-specific training modules via LMS required.

• Float policy acknowledgment required; may float to other nearby facilities.
• Pre-approved time off is considered on a case-by-case basis.
• Candidates must be able to work every other weekend and holidays as needed.
• EPIC training and competency exams required as per unit standards.
