Job Opportunity: Hospice Registered Nurse

Location: Charlotte, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

Provide hospice nursing care primarily for geriatric patients with a prognosis of six months or less. Work setting includes outpatient hospice and home health/skilled nursing environments.


Schedule & Work Details

  • Shift: Day shift, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (5 days a week, 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week)
  • Call Requirements: On-call rotation Friday, Saturday, Sunday from 8 PM to 8 AM; occasional volunteer coverage for weeknight call Monday-Thursday
  • Float Requirement: None
  • Average Daily Census: 63 patients; approximately 5 visits per day
  • Orientation: 40 hours plus additional hospital orientation
  • Scrubs: Not provided; navy blue attire required

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
  • Minimum 1 year of hospice experience, with hospice experience within the last year
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience in Home Health setting
  • Skilled nursing experience
  • End-of-life care skills including after-treatment (survivorship) care
  • Medication administration and pain management skills, including knowledge of the WHO analgesic ladder

Preferred Qualifications

  • End-of-life care skills: death pronouncement, counseling, spiritual needs identification, perideath family care, postmortem care
  • Ethical/legal knowledge: advanced directives, medical futility, abandonment, organ donation, palliative sedation, withholding/withdrawing treatment
  • Advanced medication/pain management: equianalgesic opioid dosing, PCA pump management
  • Phlebotomy and IV management: starting/maintaining IVs, peripheral IVs, central lines, ports care
  • Professional knowledge: Durable Medical Equipment (DME) authorization
  • Symptom management: ascites

Patient Population

  • Primarily geriatric patients with terminal diagnoses and life expectancy of six months or less

Systems & Tools

  • EPIC Remote Client
  • SBAR communication framework

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background check within 6 months for clinical candidates
  • Drug screening (9-panel) within 6 months of start
  • Immunizations and health screenings including:
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (or proof of past positive TB with documentation)
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B per facility requirements
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season
  • Required facility-specific documents such as confidentiality agreement, medication safety training, annual compliance training, and others as applicable
  • Photo ID for badge creation (passport-style photo on white background, business attire)
  • Completion of facility orientation and education modules (approx. 2-10 hours depending on role)
  • Proof of completion of Corp ID setup and I-Learn login prior to start

Additional Notes

  • No Return to Origin (RTO) allowed after booking; call-offs or additional RTO may result in cancellation
  • Locals are accepted at travel rate
  • Interview required via Zoom before offer
  • Mileage reimbursed at IRS standard rate
