Registered Nurse – PCU (Pulmonary/GI)
Location: Roanoke, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Schedule & Shift Details
- Night shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (6:45 PM – 7:15 AM)
- May work every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week block
- Must work one holiday per 13-week contract
- Facility may call off 1 shift every 2 weeks
- Floating within skillset required
- Patient ratio: 1:5
- Unit serves adult and geriatric patients, primarily Pulmonary/GI, no ventilators on unit
- May work without CNA support
Required Qualifications
Licensure & Education
- Valid RN license in Virginia
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
Experience
- Minimum 1 year of recent experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
Certifications
- ACLS (American Heart Association)
- BLS (American Heart Association)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
Clinical Skills & Systems
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Required Documentation & Compliance
Background & Verification
- 7-year background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years (must be current within 1 year of start)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
- Education verification of highest earned degree required (transcript/diploma required for PCU)
- NURSYS verification for RN license within 30 days of start
- Primary source license verification within 30 days of start
Health & Safety
- Physical exam within 1 year confirming freedom from communicable diseases
- Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSpot) within 1 year or clear chest X-ray if past positive
- TB questionnaire required for all candidates
- Required immunizations or positive titers: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
- Annual fit mask test required (except for students)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or mask and declination form during flu season
Facility-Specific Requirements
- Professional photo for badge (no selfies or filters)
- Completion of new hire paperwork and compliance checklists prior to start
- Orientation manual review (not required for inpatient RNs)
- Fit testing form completion required
- Access and confidentiality agreement to be completed within 48 hours of signing
- Driver’s license/state ID with address within 100 miles of facility required within 48 hours of signing
- Two clinical references required (hospital evaluations accepted)
- Complete employment application/resume required
- Annual skills checklist update required
Additional Notes
- Locals accepted within radius rule criteria
- No ventilator patients on unit
- Hospital is a Level I Trauma Center and Magnet-designated for nursing excellence
- Unit census approximately 27 patients daily
