ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Job Summary

Seeking an experienced Registered Nurse for a Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) role with specialized skills in cardiac care and critical care monitoring. This position offers 36- or 48-hour shifts with a targeted patient ratio of 1:2 in a 36-bed unit. Night shift hours are 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM, working 3 shifts per week (36 hours/week).

Required Experience & Skills

• Minimum 1 year of dedicated CVICU experience required.
• Experience with:

  • Impella device
  • Post Cardiac Surgery care (both directly from OR and not directly from OR)
  • Pre/Post Cardiac Catheterization/intervention
  • Pulmonary Artery Line/Swan Ganz monitoring
  • Thermodilution PA catheter monitoring
  • Arterial lines, ventilators, drips, sheaths, dialysis, and drawing ABGs
• Level 1 Trauma experience preferred.
• Must be able to read and interpret EKG strips; pass an online EKG telemetry competency assessment before starting.
• EPIC electronic health record experience required.
• Travel experience preferred but not required; first-time travelers are welcome.

Certifications & Licenses

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license (Ohio licensure verification required).
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification.
• NIH Stroke Certification (required within 12 months prior to start and updated annually).
• Must be able to pass Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam within 72 hours of contract signing if not current (3 attempts allowed).

Additional Requirements

• Must be available to work every other weekend and holidays.
• Floating may be required to other nearby campuses within 15 miles.
• Government-issued photo ID required.
• Must pass a 7-year criminal background check and other standard background screenings (EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG).
• Drug screening required within 12 months prior to documentation due date; includes marijuana panel (medical marijuana use is not accepted).
• Physical exam within 2 years indicating fitness for work and free of communicable diseases.
• Required health documents include proof of immunizations or immunity for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, and seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption.
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray required; annual TB questionnaire if past positive.
• Completion of medical questionnaire for respiratory protection and respirator fit testing as applicable.
• Must submit 2 professional references within 2 years of start date (1 must be a manager/supervisor/charge RN).
• Current resume/application required.
• Skills checklist updated within 1 year prior to documentation due date.
• Medication test/pharmacology competency exam required within 2 years of start.

Requirements / Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
• Minimum 1 year of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Experience with Impella device
• Experience in Post Cardiac Surgery care (not directly from the OR)
• Experience with Pre/Post Cardiac Catheterization/intervention
• Experience with Pulmonary Artery Line/Swan Ganz monitoring
• Experience with Thermodilution Pulmonary Artery catheter monitoring
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Work Environment & Other Details

• Uniform: Navy blue scrubs.
• Unit typically runs a 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio.
• OT paid after 48 hours on 48-hour shifts.
• Premier Health reserves the right to cancel up to 2 shifts per 13-week contract due to low census with 2 weeks’ notice.
• Travelers are not eligible for employee incentives.
