Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Seattle, Washington
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Overview

  • Float required to Postpartum unit.
  • Care for high-risk antepartum patients (6 to 41 weeks gestation) including conditions such as PTL, previa, preeclampsia, diabetes, hypertension, PROM, twins, and substance use disorder in pregnancy.
  • Care for fetal demise or loss patients both antepartum and postpartum.
  • Postpartum care for mothers with babies in NICU (no newborns on this unit).
  • Support procedures including amnio or sterile speculum exams at bedside.
  • Manage PCA pumps, PICC/central lines, syringe pumps.
  • Administer medications such as heparin, insulin, magnesium sulfate.
  • Circulate for C-sections.

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required.
  • Candidates with less than 2 years or no experience with C-sections require manager approval.
  • Intermediate AWHONN certification holders will be screened for manager approval.
  • First-time travelers are accepted.

Certifications Required

  • AWHONN Advanced (required)
  • BLS (required)
  • NRP (required)
  • ACLS (preferred)

Skills & Competencies

  • Ability to assist with sterile speculum exams (effacement, dilation, station, presentation).
  • Maintain central lines (CVC/PICC).
  • Administer anticoagulants, insulin drips, magnesium sulfate therapy.
  • Labor and delivery management including circulating for C-sections.

Work Setting

  • High Risk Antepartum Unit
  • Postpartum Unit (float)

Prior Travel Experience

  • Not required (First Time Traveler OK).

Floating Policy

  • May be required to float to other Providence facilities within a reasonable distance.

Health & Compliance Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start.
  • Fit mask test required annually (3M 1860, 1860S, 1870+ masks accepted).
  • Immunizations/vaccinations required or declinations accepted:
    • TDAP (within 10 years)
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) or positive titers
    • Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer
    • Flu vaccine during flu season or declination
    • COVID vaccine or declination
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually.
  • 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests).
  • Respiratory safety clearance required annually for respirator use.

Background & Verification

  • Background check within 45 days of start covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years.
  • Education verification required for nursing degree.
  • NURSYS license verification required for all RNs.
  • Employment application covering last 5 years required.
  • Minimum 2 references covering 1 year of employment in a comparable specialty/setting required.

Additional Requirements

  • Skills checklist required annually for applicable units.
  • Competency exams as applicable by profession.
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification or fetal heart rate monitoring assessment required for L&D RNs.
  • WorkRamp training modules required prior to start, including specialty-specific and regulatory modules.

Summary

This is a travel/contract RN position in Seattle, WA, focused on high-risk antepartum and postpartum care with floating responsibilities. The role requires a minimum of 2 years nursing experience, specific certifications (AWHONN, BLS, NRP), and the ability to manage complex antepartum and labor/delivery procedures including C-sections. First-time travelers are welcome. Compliance with health, background, and training requirements is mandatory.
