Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse

Location: Richmond, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit

  • Main 11 West Neuroscience PCU Unit

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of Registered Nurse experience required
  • No prior travel experience explicitly required

Licensure & Certifications

  • Permanent Virginia RN license required (temporary licenses not accepted)
  • NURSYS verification required for all RNs
  • Required Certifications (AHA only):
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure)
    • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
  • Additional certifications may be required based on unit job descriptions
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement including HIPAA required

Background & Compliance Checks

  • Criminal background check within 60 days of start, including:
    • All states lived/worked in past 7 years
    • State of permanent residence
    • VA Statewide Repository Search
    • SS Trace
    • All counties lived/worked in past 7 years
    • Nationwide check
    • FACIS Level 3
    • Sex Offender Registry
    • Education Verification (degree from NLN or CCNE accredited program)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
  • Fingerprinting (Virginia State Police National Criminal Background Check) required for certain units (Pediatrics, NICU, Psych, etc.) with proof of submission prior to start
  • Virginia Central Registry (CPS) search and submission required for Pediatrics, NICU, Behavioral Health, Labor and Delivery units

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year attesting ability to meet physical demands
  • Tdap vaccine or declination required
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes
  • TB questionnaire updated annually
  • Titers and/or boosters required for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Varicella
  • Hepatitis B titer, vaccine series, or declination required
  • Drug testing within 60 days of start (9-panel minimum, instant screens not accepted)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required for the 2025-26 season

Competency & Skills

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam required as applicable
  • Color Blind Testing required
  • Abuse Reporting Competency covering physical/sexual abuse, domestic violence, neglect/exploitation of elderly or incapacitated adults required
  • Skills checklist required and must be updated annually

Orientation & Training

  • Pharmacology Exam, Point of Care Testing, Airborne Precaution Mask Fitting at orientation (not pass/fail)
  • Basic Knowledge Assessment Tool (BKAT) for Tele/Step-Down, Progressive Care, ICU units
  • Completion of assigned learning modules (~6 hours) during orientation week

References & Documentation

  • Two professional references required
  • Complete application/resume required
  • Performance evaluations completed at end of assignment, not required prior to start
