Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Bel Air, Maryland
Specialty: Registered Nurse – MS/Tele RN - Orthopedics Unit


Job Details

  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Start Date: January 26, 2026
  • Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12-hour nights (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
  • Schedule: Every other weekend required; holidays as scheduled
  • Floating: Required within specialty and to lower acuity units as needed
  • On-Call: Not required
  • Unit Size: 26 beds (20 rooms)
  • Patient Population:
    • Orthopedics: joint replacements, fracture repairs
    • Spine: ACDF, fusions, decompressions
    • Med/Surg: various diagnoses
  • Special Equipment: PCA pumps, Bucks traction, overbed trapeze, SCD sleeves/pumps, foot pumps, Hoyer lift, incentive spirometer, Sara Stedy (sit to stand), walkers
  • Scrub Color: Navy Blue

Experience Requirements

  • Years of Specialty Experience: Minimum 2 years (including ortho/spine experience)
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required; first-time travelers accepted with strong experience

Licenses & Certifications Required

  • Maryland RN State License
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • NIH Stroke Certification (updated annually)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA only, required for Tele units
  • Other certifications may be required as applicable (e.g., PALS, NRP, CHEMO, TNCC, EFM) – refer to unit/job description

Competency Requirements

  • MS/Tele competency exam required for Orthopedics unit
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (score 80% or higher)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (score 80% or higher)
  • Age-specific competency exam (score 80% or higher)
  • Color blind testing required

Health & Compliance Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start (including Latex screening)
  • Negative 9 or 10 panel drug screen within 30-45 days prior to start (instant tests not accepted)
  • Fit mask test within 1 year of start
  • Immunizations and titers:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (required for certain units)
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (positive titer or vaccination proof)
    • Hepatitis B (positive titer or declination accepted; series not accepted)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility protocol, updated annually
  • Flu vaccine or medical/religious exemption required during flu season
  • COVID vaccine not required but documentation collected for tracking

Background & Documentation

  • 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start, updated annually
  • Education verification for highest level of education
  • Employment history verification for previous 5 years (attestation accepted)
  • Two professional references required (one must be a supervisor/manager or charge RN)
  • I9 or attestation required prior to start
  • Government-issued photo ID required
  • Compliance with Maryland State Exclusions List check within 30 days of start

Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Confidentiality agreement and unit-specific job description must be signed prior to start
  • Photo for badge (passport style with solid white/beige background)
  • Completion of facility-specific orientation and training materials, including Epic Portfolio Training Test Out if eligible
  • Review and sign facility policies including appearance standards, fingernail hygiene, standards of business conduct, and OSHA questionnaire
  • Completion of agency-specific checklists and attestations

Additional Notes

  • Floating within specialty and to lower acuity units is required
  • Holidays and every other weekend shifts are mandatory
  • Prior travel experience is not required, making this suitable for first-time travel nurses with strong ortho/spine experience
