Job Opportunity: Echo Tech / Cardiac Sonographer
Location: Madison, Wisconsin

Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Start date: March 30 or April 6, 2026 (not before)
- Schedule: Days, 8-hour shifts, Monday - Friday with rotational Saturday and Sunday shifts
- Variable start times: 7:00, 7:30, 8:00, 8:30, 9:00 AM
- Possible call coverage if needed
Role Overview
- Independently perform professional-level cardiac ultrasound assessments and non-invasive studies using ultrasound and related diagnostic technology.
- Record results and clinical preliminary impressions to guide patient care.
- Use cognitive sonographic skills to evaluate anatomical and pathological conditions.
- Assist with transthoracic echo, transesophageal echo, stress testing (dobutamine, treadmill exercise), and carotid duplex.
- Communicate preliminary exam impressions to reading and supervising physicians.
- Perform exams on adults, geriatrics, and occasionally adolescents and pediatric patients using stationary and portable equipment.
- Serve as a clinical instructor for the UW School of Ultrasound and participate in instruction of fellows, residents, and visiting physicians.
- May participate in clinical research and act as a clinical resource within the facility and system.
Facility Requirements
- Traveler’s permanent address must be within 50 miles of the primary work site.
- Floating: Travelers may be assigned shifts in multiple units or locations depending on staffing needs.
Required Qualifications
Experience
- Minimum 1 year of cardiac sonography experience required.
Education
- Graduate of an ultrasonography program required.
- Completion of a CAAHEP-accredited ultrasonography training program preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Ultrasonography, Radiology, Biological Sciences, or relevant health sciences field preferred.
Licensure & Certification
- Registered in echocardiography (RCS or RDCS).
- BLS certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) only.
Additional Requirements & Compliance
Background Checks & Verifications
- Background check within 90 days prior to start, including multi-location search for past 7 years.
- Education verification required for ultrasonography program completion.
- State-specific caregiver screening for Wisconsin within 90 days of start.
Certifications
- BLS (American Heart Association) required.
- ACLS, PALS, NRP certifications may be required depending on unit assignment.
- National certification/verification within 30 days of start and upon expiration.
Health & Immunization
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility guidelines.
- Required immunizations or documented immunity for:
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR)
- Varicella
- Hepatitis B (or documented declination)
- Influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption annually
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
- Meningococcal vaccine or declination if applicable
- Drug screening per Vaya standard.
Testing & Competencies
- Telemetry testing (adult and pediatric) required for applicable units, with strict passing criteria and remediation process.
- Medication/pharmacology competency exams as applicable.
- Color blindness testing if working in laboratory or dialysis.
Documentation
- Photo for badge (passport-style, no headwear except religious/medical).
- Signed acknowledgments for safety manuals and pass/fail testing as required.
- Employment application and skills checklist annually.
- References: 2 clinical references within last 3 years (Aya standard).

This is a 13-week travel contract for a Cardiac Sonographer with at least 1 year of cardiac ultrasound experience. The role involves performing a variety of cardiac ultrasound procedures, instructing students and staff, and participating in clinical research. Candidates must hold appropriate registration and certifications, meet health and immunization requirements, and be willing to float to different units as needed.
