Job Description

• Perform histology technician duties focusing on small biopsies including dermatology, renal, and simple routine specimens.
• Work under supervision of a Pathology Assistant and Supervisor.
• Assignment duration: approximately 11 weeks.

Required Qualifications

• Education:

  • Associate in Science and completion of an approved Histology accredited program OR
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
• Experience: 2 to 5 years working with small biopsies (derm, renal, routine specimens).
• Licensure:

  • New York State Clinical Laboratory Technologist License OR
  • Certified Histology Technician OR
  • Clinical Laboratory Technician license from NYS Education Department.
• Certifications:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only, primary source verification required.
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only, primary source verification required.
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA only, primary source verification required.
• Background checks and verifications as required by facility policies.

Required Experience

• Specialty experience: Minimum 2 years, up to 5 years preferred in histology with small biopsies.
• Prior travel experience: Not explicitly required.

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

• Criminal background check within 6 months prior to assignment, including alias and multi-state checks.
• EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, Social Security Verification, Sex Offender Search, OFAC Sanctions List Search within 30 days of start.
• Education verification including transcripts and diplomas.
• Physical exam within 12 months of start, including vital signs and clearance to work without restrictions.
• Fit mask test (N95) within 1 year prior to start.
• Immunizations and health documents:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (required for pediatrics or working with children).
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray as per options provided.
  • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella vaccinations or titers with booster requirements if low titer.
  • Hepatitis B antibody titer, antigen titer, or vaccine series with declination form.
  • Varicella vaccination or positive titer with booster requirements if low titer.
  • Hepatitis C titer within 6 months.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination during flu season (Sept-May) with no declinations accepted without approved exemption.
• Drug testing: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 60 days prior to start (excluding marijuana).
• Vision screening (Snellen) within 12 months of start.
• Color blind testing if failed online exam twice (in-person Ishihara test required).
• References: 2 professional references within 2 years of start.
• Employment application and 20-year work history verification required.

Additional Requirements

• Completion of facility-specific orientation and training modules prior to or at start of assignment.
• Signed confidentiality agreement, harassment factsheet, and staff attestation forms.
• Compliance with New York State Central Registry and Statewide Exclusion List forms if applicable.
• Annual competency exams and medication/pharmacology competency as applicable.

This is a night shift histology technician travel contract position in New York requiring 2-5 years of histology experience, appropriate licensure, and multiple health and compliance verifications.
