Job Opportunity: ICU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Fishers, Indiana
Specialty: ICU Registered Nurse (RN)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Overview
- Work primarily in the ICU unit with floating to PCU (Progressive Care Unit).
- Must be able to handle higher patient ratios and screen strong PCU RNs.
- ICU/PCU RN role requiring flexibility and critical care skills.
Experience & Requirements
- Years of Experience Required: 3 years in ICU specialty (may consider less depending on experience, but 3 years is preferred).
- Prior Travel Experience: Not accepted for first-time travelers (first timers NOT accepted).
- Certifications Required:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
- License: Must be willing to obtain an Indiana (IN) compact or temporary license prior to start. Pending licenses accepted.
- Locals: Not accepted.
- Float Requirement: Yes, floating between ICU and PCU.
- Holiday Work: Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays.
Shift Details
- Guaranteed hours with options:
- 8 and 10 hour shifts totaling 40 hours/week
- 3 shifts of 12 hours totaling 36 hours/week
- 4 shifts of 12 hours totaling 48 hours/week
Clinical Skills & Special Requirements
- Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Obtain and interpret 12 lead EKG/ECG
- Thermoregulation protocols (hypothermia/hyperthermia)
- Post cardiac surgery care (directly from OR)
- Pre/post cardiac catheterization/intervention care
- Sheath removal
- IV insulin protocols
- Management of chronic/acute renal failure
- Accessing/managing ports
- Arterial line management
- Blood product administration
- Central line and PICC line care/management
- Starting and maintaining IVs
- Continuous IV paralytics and neuromuscular blockade
- Continuous IV sedation
- Emergency medication administration
- Procedural sedation administration and monitoring
- Titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
- CVA/acute stroke management
- Hypothermia protocol/Arctic Sun use
- Assist with BiPAP and CPAP management
- Assist with chest tube insertion/removal
- Care of ventilated patients including ventilator management and suctioning (ETT, NT)
- High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC) management
- Interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs)
- Infection prevention and isolation precautions including PPE use
- Phlebotomy
- Management of surgical wounds with drains and wound vac

- ARDS, COPD, STEMI, NSTEMI, DKA, AKI, UTIs, Acute Shock

Important Notes
- Effective 11/30/2024, Indiana RNs are generally not allowed to work at this facility except for Perioperative/OR RNs, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers.
- Periop includes ENDO, IR RN, PACU, Cath Lab RN, SDS specialties.
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy)
- Background checks including criminal, sex offender, education verification, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG within required timeframes
- Official transcript or diploma (may be pending at start)
- Certifications verification (ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, others as applicable)
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam
- Color blind testing (Ishihara or equivalent)
- Unit competency exam
- Facility-specific compliance forms and orientation packets (time sensitive)
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Fit mask test within 12 months (specific respirators approved)
- Immunizations and titers: Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (preferred), TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella (all with strict vaccine/titer requirements)
- Negative 10 panel drug screen within 12 months
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required for flu season (9/30 - 3/31)
- References: Minimum 2 from recent employment with appropriate supervisory titles
- Employment application with full work history and explanation of gaps
- Skills checklist within 12 months and annual updates
This position is ideal for experienced ICU RNs comfortable with critical care, complex patient management, and flexible floating assignments. Prior travel experience is required; first-time travelers will not be considered.
