Job Opportunity: Cath Lab Registered Nurse (RN)
Location: Columbia, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Cath Lab RN
- Shift: 4x10-hour shifts, 7:00 AM - 5:30 PM
- Patient Ratio: 1:1
- Weekend Requirement: Yes, one weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) per month on call
- On-Call Requirement: Yes, one weekday call shift every week
- Floating: No floating between service lines or sister facilities
Experience & Licensing Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of Cath Lab or EP experience required
- First-time travelers accepted
- Must have a South Carolina RN license or Compact license in hand prior to start
- Radiation badge required (must be provided by the agency; facility does not provide)
Certifications Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA certification only
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only, RQI acceptable
- Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., PALS, TNCC, NIH Stroke) - check specific unit requirements
- Certifications must be valid and not expiring within 30 days of start date
Facility & Work Environment
- Acute Care Hospital with 304 staffed beds
- Charting system: Epic
- Scrubs: Hospital-issued Cath Lab scrubs
- Parking: No fee, parking pass provided at badge pickup; garages and lots available
Scheduling & Hours
- Guaranteed hours with allowance for facility to call off 1 shift every 2 weeks
- Block scheduling may be accommodated with manager approval
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
Background Checks:
- Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
- Must include SSN trace, statewide, national criminal, sex offender registry, FACIS 3
- Background check must be run within 90 days of start
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
Education Verification:
- Required; diploma or official transcripts accepted as placeholder if verification pending
Licensure Verification:
- Primary source verification required showing active, unencumbered license with no pending actions
- NURSYS verification required for RNs
- License hits must be approved by facility
References:
- Proof of 2 clinical references required, including at least one from the same unit
Work History Verification:
- Last 3 clinical employers verified through a 3rd party vendor
- Verification must start within 48 hours of signing contract
Radiation Badge:
- Required for Cath Lab RNs and Techs
- Candidates cannot start without radiation badge; may orient but not work until received
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 90 days of start, updated annually, confirming ability to meet job demands without restrictions
- Respirator medical clearance required annually (RespSafety virtual questionnaire)
- Immunizations and titers required or proof of immunity for:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years or declination form)
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (positive titers or vaccines)
- Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
- Varicella (positive titer or vaccines)
- Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days of start or proof of prior positive with chest x-ray
- Annual TB questionnaire completion required
- 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30)
- COVID-19 vaccination highly preferred; if declined, must complete facility declination form
Facility Specific Requirements
- Completion of orientation modules (approx. 2 hours) prior to start; must be done on a computer, not a phone
- Upload COVID and flu vaccination documentation into facility system
- Clear, passport-style photo required for badge (frontal view, solid light background)
- Completion of facility-specific forms including confidentiality, contractor forms, ID badge request, and job description acknowledgment prior to start
Additional Notes
- Local radius rule: 60 miles
- Locals may be accepted on a case-by-case basis
- All return-to-office (RTO) restrictions must be disclosed at submission and approved by facility
- Agency responsible for providing radiation badges and tracking reports
- Block scheduling accommodations require manager approval and depend on unit needs
