Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract) - Saint Joseph, Missouri

Position Overview

• Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN)

• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Shift: 3x12 hour night shifts (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
• Unit: Acute Rehabilitation Unit (ARU)
• Patient Ratio: 1:5 patients on nights (1:5-6)
• Experience Required: Minimum 1 year; 1st time travelers accepted with 2 years experience
• Education: BSN required
• Certifications: RN State License and/or Compact State Licensure, BCLS, ACLS preferred
• Pending license accepted but must be obtained prior to start
• Basic EKG exam required with a passing score of 80% or higher (2 attempts allowed)

Unit Description

• Cares for patients discharged from medical center requiring 1+ week of physical, speech, or occupational therapy
• Patient types include post-surgical, post-stroke, congestive heart failure (CHF), and those needing prolonged therapy
• Care involves daily activities, occasional IVs, and lab draws
• Non-telemetry unit
• Team-based care involving collaboration with physical therapy and care management teams for discharge planning

Required Certifications & Exams

• Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA or ARC (must state "Basic Life Support")
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - AHA only (RQI acceptable)
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) - AHA only (RQI acceptable), if applicable
• Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) - Required for some units; not mandatory for ARU
• NIH Stroke Certification - Required annually for Acute Hospital RNs
• Dysrhythmia/Basic EKG Competency Exam - Must score 84% or higher; 2 attempts allowed
• Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) - Preferred for first contract; required if contract extended or for specific units
• Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam - As applicable
• Competency Exam - As applicable to specialty

Licensure & Verification

• Primary source verification of state license within 30 days of start
• NURSYS verification required
• Background checks including national criminal, state, county, SSN trace, sex offender, FACIS Level 3, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG
• Education verification with official transcript or diploma including graduation date

Health & Immunization Requirements

• Physical exam within last 12 months (not required annually)
• Fit mask testing completed onsite
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year; annual updates required
• Immunizations or documented immunity required for:

  • Rubeola (Measles)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B
  • Varicella
• Drug screening within 30 days of start covering multiple substances
• Seasonal flu vaccination required or agency-approved medical/religious exemption (mask required if exempt)

Documentation & Compliance

• Confidentiality Agreement and Code of Conduct must be reviewed and signed
• Agency Nurse Orientation Quiz with minimum 84% score required prior to start
• Skills checklist and work history verification required
• Missouri EDL Search required within 30 days of start
• Two professional references within 3 years of start
