Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – Observation Unit
Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Description
- Medical Surgical/Solid Organ Transplant Unit (SOTU) – 36-bed unit providing medical surgical/telemetry and progressive care to adult pre- and post-liver, kidney, pancreas, intestinal transplant patients, and intestinal rehabilitation patients.
- Adolescent patients (age 15+) are on the unit but cared for by core staff only.
- Patient-to-nurse ratios: 1:5 days / 1:6 nights (night ratio may rarely be 1:7).
- Drip management required on all floors.
- EPIC charting experience required.
- Floating required frequently to meet staffing needs, including potential float to Bellevue campus and various other units.
- Care teams include CNAs, care techs, transport team, paramedics, and some LPNs.
- 100% nicotine-free facility.
Work Schedule & Requirements
- Shift options: 36 or 48 hours.
- Weekend shifts: 4 out of 8 possible in a 4-week period (days: Sat/Sun; nights: Fri/Sat night).
- RTO (Request Time Off) restrictions: Up to two weeks permitted; must be submitted with application.
- Holiday requirement: Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays.
- Locals not accepted (must live more than 100 miles from facility).
- Scrubs: Mandatory Steele gray scrubs with facility logo (provided after confirmation).
Required Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of nursing experience in a large, urban hospital.
- Prior Travel Experience: First-time travelers NOT accepted unless they have 2 years of experience at a Level I Academic Medical Center.
- Licenses/Certifications:
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license for Nebraska (pending license accepted but must be in hand 6 weeks before start).
- BLS (Basic Life Support) required.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) required.
- NIH Stroke Certification preferred.
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) preferred.
- Skills:
- Experience with drips on all floors.
- EPIC electronic medical record charting experience required.
- Other: Must be prepared to float frequently within scope to meet facility needs.
Additional Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID required.
- Background check within 30 days of start, including nationwide and federal enhanced searches.
- SAM and OIG checks required within 30 days of start and monthly thereafter.
- Education verification required.
- State-specific registry checks required.
- Physical exam, fit mask test, and various immunizations/vaccinations required and must be current (including Tdap, MMR, Hepatitis B, Varicella, TB testing).
- Drug screening within 60 days of start and updated annually.
- Annual skills checklist required.
- References: 2 work references from the past 2 years required.
- Flu vaccine preferred but not mandatory; documentation or declination required.
- COVID vaccine preferred; exemptions accepted.
