Registered Nurse (RN) – Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

Location: Boise, Idaho
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night shift (7 PM – 7 AM)
Hours: 12-hour shifts, approximately 36 hours per week


Unit Details

  • Level IV NICU, 61 beds across 24 rooms (up to 3 patients per room)
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios range from 1:1 to 1:3
  • Neonatologist and Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) coverage 24/7
  • Respiratory therapy equipment includes Drager, Servo, HFJV, HFOV, Nava, CPAP, and Nasal Cannula
  • No telemetry/monitor techs on unit
  • Charge Nurse present on each shift but does not take patient assignments
  • Nurse aides/patient care technicians available (1-2 per shift)

Patient Population & Care

  • Common diagnoses: Prematurity (22 weeks and above), respiratory distress, surgical patients (tracheostomies, G-tubes, shunts, hernia repairs), feeder/grower infants
  • RNs are required to titrate drips such as Morphine, Dopamine, and Epinephrine

Scheduling & Orientation

  • No self-scheduling; scheduler coordinates shifts with traveler
  • Maximum of 5 consecutive shifts allowed
  • Weekend and holiday shifts required as needed
  • No call or standby requirements
  • Floating may be required to Pediatrics, PICU, Nursery, Mother-Baby units, or lower acuity NICUs at nearby facilities (orientation provided if needed)
  • Dress code: Hospital blue scrubs or personal scrubs
  • Orientation: 2 shifts of unit-specific orientation plus 1 shift meeting with educator to review unit standards

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Idaho
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Minimum 2 years of NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care) experience
  • NICU experience within the last year
  • BLS certification issued by American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC)
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
  • STABLE certification

Additional Notes

  • Facility enforces a 50-mile radius rule; candidates must reside outside this radius to be considered
  • Shift times: Day (7 AM – 7 PM) and Night (7 PM – 7 AM), with this position specifically for night shift

L&D Unit is Traveler friendly for CST roll as well as RN roll. Work load is very manageable. Great staff support.
