Registered Nurse (RN) – Multi Care Unit (MCU)

Location: Prescott Valley, Arizona
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Overview

• Multi Care Unit with combined acuity levels (ICU, PCU, MST) on one unit
• Unit size: 10 beds
• Nurse-to-patient ratios vary by acuity:

  • ICU: 1:2
  • PCU: 1:4
  • MST: 1:5-6 (if no nurse aide, 1:3 primary care)
• Remote Monitor Techs support PCU & MST patients
• Respiratory Therapy support available (vents, BiPAP, CPAP)
• RNs responsible for 12-lead EKGs and bedside cardiac monitoring for ICU patients

Patient Types / Common Diagnoses

• Medical ICU: Sepsis, suicide attempts, drug or alcohol withdrawal, COPD, respiratory arrest, pneumonia, COVID-19, diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), abnormal blood pressure or heart rate, post-op complications
• PCU: Patients on non-titratable infusions to maintain heart rate or blood pressure

Required Certifications & Exams

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• Must pass dysrhythmia exam with a minimum score of 80% within two attempts prior to contract signing

Experience & Skills

• Minimum 2 years ICU experience required
• Candidates with 1 year ICU + 1 year PCU/Med Surg experience from larger facilities may be considered if skills are strong
• RNs must be able to titrate drips (sedation, vasopressors, insulin)
• Ability to provide primary care to PCU and MST patients if no nurse aide is available

Scheduling & Work Requirements

• 12-hour shifts (07:00–19:00 or 19:30–07:30)
• Weekend rotation: every other weekend (Friday/Saturday nights, Saturday/Sunday days)
• Holiday rotation to distribute holidays fairly
• Standby/call rotation during low census periods
• Floating required to Emergency Care MST, Pediatric unit (adult MST assignments), and West Campus ICU/PCU with 2-hour notice to maintain competency

Additional Information

• Dress code: Any scrub color except camouflage
• Orientation includes hospital and unit-specific training
• Radius rule: Candidates must not have worked full-time, part-time, or PRN within the past year at any related facilities within 50 miles
• Cannot have worked permanently at related facilities within the last 12 months

Required Qualifications

• Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing
• BLS and ACLS certifications
• Minimum 2 years ICU experience (or equivalent combination of ICU and PCU/Med Surg experience)
• Successful completion of dysrhythmia exam prior to contract
