ICU Travel Nurse Opportunity - Long Beach, California

Job Details

• Specialty: ICU Nurse
• Location: Long Beach, California
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Shift: 12-hour shifts (0630-1900, 1830-0700)
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holiday Requirement: Rotate with core staff
• Floating: Telemetry and any ED ICU/Telemetry holds

Experience & Certifications

• Required ICU Experience: 3 years (preferred; higher value used)
• Certifications:

  • Active BLS
  • Active ACLS
  • California Nursing License
  • NIHSS
  • Cerner EMR experience required
  • CCRN preferred

Unit & Patient Information

• Unit: ICU
• Beds: 32 licensed (set up in pods of 8)
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 2:1
• Common Diagnoses:

  • Higher level neuro/Cardiac/PCI
  • Sepsis
  • ETOH (alcohol-related conditions)
  • Stroke
  • Ventricular assist devices (Ventrics)
  • Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)
  • Camino ICP monitoring

Work Environment & Support

• Charge Nurse Role: Yes (no patient assignment)
• Resource RN: May take patient assignment
• Nurse Aides: Usually 1 on days only
• Telemetry/Monitor Techs: No; RNs read and interpret their own strips
• Drips: Yes (pressors, antiarrhythmics, sedation, etc.)
• Ventilator Support: Yes
• Hospitalist or Intensivist: In-house coverage
• Respiratory Therapist: 24/7 coverage
• Pharmacy: 24/7 coverage
• IV Team: No

Orientation

• Day 1: 8 hours with ICU educator, 4 hours with preceptor
• Day 2: 12 hours with preceptor

Additional Notes

• Huddle report and bedside report required
• No acrylic nails or gel polish allowed during assignment
• Scrub colors: RN - Navy Blue, Nurse Aide - Hunter Green
