PACU Travel Nurse Opportunity - Roseburg, Oregon

Position Overview

• Specialty: PACU (Post Anesthesia Care Unit) with floating into Pre-op
• Location: Roseburg, Oregon
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Shifts: 5 shifts per week, 8 hours each, varied start times between 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday
• Scheduling: Schedule created by manager/scheduler; flexibility required to fill staffing gaps
• No weekend, weeknight, or holiday call requirements

Unit Details

• Facilities: Rotation between Mercy Medical Center (MMC) and OR Surgical Center (ORSC)
• Beds:

  • 6 ORs and 4 Endoscopy suites total
  • MMC Pre-op: 8 beds
  • MMC PACU: 4 beds
  • ORSC Recovery: 10 beds
• Cases per day:

  • MMC: 5-10 cases
  • ORSC: 15-30 cases
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:

  • Pre-op: 1:2
  • PACU: 1:1 or 1:3
  • Recovery: 1:2 or 1:3
• Floating: Nurses will float between MMC and ORSC, covering Pre-op, PACU, and Recovery phases

Required Certifications & Skills

• Certifications:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - Required
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) - Required
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - Preferred
• Licensure:

  • OR license not required at time of application; facility willing to request a 90-day emergency license
• Experience:

  • Must have experience with Meditech EMR system
  • Ability to read and interpret cardiac rhythms and respond to life-threatening arrhythmias (RNs only, not monitor techs)
• EMR Systems:

  • MMC uses Meditech
  • ORSC uses a mix of Meditech and paper charting

Patient Population & Common Cases

• General surgery, Gynecology, Orthopedics & Sports Medicine
• Hand Specialist, Podiatry, Ophthalmology (Eyes), ENT, and Endoscopy cases
• Phase 1 and Phase 2 recovery care required

Orientation & Support

• Orientation includes general overview, scavenger hunt, 1-2 days with a preceptor, and an assigned buddy until comfortable
• Manager oversees entire area; separate charge nurses for OR and Pre-op/PACU
• Medical Assistants support nursing staff with patient admission and discharge
• Scrubs provided

Additional Notes

• No call responsibilities
• Nurses expected to be flexible with floating assignments between units
• Prior travel experience requirement not specified (assumed not required)
