Job Opportunity: Clinical Laboratory Scientist

Location: San Dimas, California
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (LTA)

Required Qualifications

• ASCP certification or equivalent
• Minimum 2 years of hospital laboratory work experience
• Bachelor’s Degree in chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution (or meet CLIA educational requirements)
• Current and valid state license (if required by state)

Job Responsibilities

• Perform waived, moderate, or highly complex tests authorized by CLIA and applicable regulations
• Adhere to laboratory procedures for collection, processing, analysis, and reporting of patient test results
• Follow quality control policies and document corrective actions when test systems deviate from performance specifications
• Identify and resolve problems affecting test performance or notify supervisor/management immediately
• Perform a wide variety of laboratory procedures independently using manual and automated methods in areas including Hematology, Blood Bank, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Microbiology, Immunology, and others as introduced
• Perform and document maintenance on instruments and equipment as required
• Review accuracy of patient results prior to release
• Recognize age-specific differences in expected results (newborn to geriatrics)
• Ensure proficiency testing samples are tested properly and without collaboration prior to reporting
• May perform venipuncture or capillary puncture on patients of all ages
• Assist in development and maintenance of laboratory policies and procedures
• Adhere to all department and hospital policies related to safety, infection control, emergency preparedness, and human resources
• May serve as Lead Tech in absence of supervisor, responsible for section or department during shift
• May have responsibilities related to Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and/or Point of Care (POC) testing
• Other duties as assigned by department management

Required Credentials and Compliance

• COVID-19 vaccination (2 doses plus booster) or completed declination
• MMR vaccination or positive titer showing immunity
• Annual respirator fit test (must be completed prior to start if not available onsite)
• Hepatitis B vaccination (declinations not accepted at some locations)
• Annual Influenza vaccine or declination (declinations not accepted at some locations)
• TB test within one year of start date
• Varicella vaccination or immunity titer
• Tdap vaccination (declinations not accepted at some locations)
• Annual physical/health statement confirming clearance to work
• Driver’s license, state ID, or passport
• National criminal background check within one year of start date (with some state-specific exceptions)
• Prime Core Competencies Exam (minimum score 80%)
• Prime Skills Checklist
• Annual color-blind test
• Prime Specialty Exam (minimum score 80%)
• Prime SAM/EPLS exclusion search
• Prime Agency Attestation (completed after all credentials uploaded)
• Prime Form I-9 (employment eligibility verification)
• Signed job description by employee
• Prime CA Sexual Harassment Prevention Training (valid for 2 years)
• Drug screening within 60 days of start (minimum 10-panel including THC saliva test for CA locations)

Additional Requirements

• Up-to-date resume reflecting recent work history (required at offer acceptance)
• Two professional references required, including at least one from a manager or direct supervisor

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of hospital laboratory work experience in the specialty

Prior Travel Experience

• No explicit prior travel experience required
