Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Endoscopy

Location: Bangor, Maine
Specialty: Endoscopy or Procedure Room
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Facility Overview

  • Level II Trauma Center
  • 411 beds total
  • Unit includes 11 Preop Bays, 8 PACU bays, and 5 procedure rooms
  • Very busy unit working with 4 physician groups: Pulmonary, Gastric Enterology, Pediatric GI, Northeast Surgery

Patient Types & Procedures

  • Inpatient and Outpatient
  • Average 35-40 procedures daily
  • Advanced GI procedures: ERCP with stent placement, Colonic EMR, Colonic stents, EUS, biliary stents
  • General GI: EGD, Colonoscopy, Hemorrhoid, colonic EMR, PEG Insertion, Colon ablation
  • Pediatric GI: EGD, Colon
  • Pulmonary: Bronchoscopies, EBUS, thoracentesis, pleurx catheter insertion
  • Northeast Surgery Team: General GI

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year of Endoscopy experience as an RN (highest required)
  • First-time travelers are welcome (no prior travel experience required)

Skills & Certifications

  • Must be able to scrub and circulate (strongly preferred to scrub)
  • Pre/post-op experience required
  • Basic bronchoscopy and intra-op experience required
  • Required certifications:
    • BLS
    • ACLS
    • PALS (optional)

Patient Ratios

  • Pre-op: 1 nurse to 3-4 patients
  • Phase 2 Recovery: 1 nurse to 2-3 patients
  • Most cases done under MAC anesthesia; general anesthesia patients recover quickly in room or moved to Main OR PACU if needed

Support & Team Structure

  • Charge Nurse (does not take patient assignments)
  • Unit Secretary
  • Appointed Team Lead in Pre-Op
  • CNAs in Pre/Post Op

Work Schedule & Environment

  • Hours: Monday – Friday, 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM (travelers)
  • No weekend rotation, on-call, or holiday expectations
  • Scheduling time off requires manager approval
  • Scrubs provided; staff may arrive in street clothes
  • Free on-site parking
  • Culture: Teamwork and traveler-friendly

Orientation

  • Week 1: Orientation includes time spent in each area of the department, tailored to experience and comfort level

Technology & Equipment

  • Charting system: Cerner
  • Equipment: Alaris pumps, Pyxis, Olympus scopes

Floating

  • No floating required

Additional Notes

  • Candidates should indicate experience with advanced GI procedures and whether they have scrubbed or only circulated during those procedures.
