Respiratory Therapist (Registered Respiratory Therapist) - Night Shift

Job Summary

Registered Respiratory Therapists (RRT) perform respiratory care treatments according to physician orders and protocols, educate patients with cardiopulmonary conditions, and manage respiratory equipment and procedures. The role includes evaluating patient status, conducting therapeutic procedures, maintaining airways, and responding to emergencies including adult endotracheal intubation after training and competency.

Responsibilities

• Assemble, inspect, and troubleshoot respiratory equipment.
• Assess and monitor cardiopulmonary status and patient response to respiratory care.
• Perform therapeutic procedures to maintain ventilation and airway clearance.
• Modify respiratory care plans as needed based on patient response.
• Provide education to patients regarding care plans and therapy goals.
• Initiate or adjust respiratory care techniques in emergency situations.
• Maintain infection control standards.
• Serve as a resource for complex respiratory care cases.
• Provide in-service education to department staff.
• Review patient records and recommend diagnostic procedures.
• Ensure cleanliness and proper selection of respiratory equipment.

Required Qualifications

• Active Illinois Respiratory Care License.
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential.
• Minimum 2 years of RRT experience.
• Adult critical care experience (required).
• Emergency Department experience (required).
• Neonatal/Pediatrics experience (required).
• Experience with all patient populations.
• Cerner EMR experience.
• Current certifications:

  • American Heart Association BLS
  • American Heart Association ACLS
  • American Heart Association PALS
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
  • National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) Certification
• Work history and skills checklist current to 1 year, pertinent to RRT specialty.
• Two supervisory reference forms with employment dates.

Additional Requirements

• Candidates must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility (local candidates are not eligible).
• Prior employment as a direct employee within the last 2 years at this facility disqualifies candidacy.
• Registered Respiratory Therapists with at least 2 years of critical care experience may perform adult endotracheal intubation after completing required training and competency.
