Job Details

• Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN) - Pediatrics
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Unit Size: Very small unit with a maximum census of 3 patients
• Patient Ratio: 1 nurse to 3 patients
• Shift: Nights
• Call-Outs: Not allowed; call-outs may close the unit and impact patient care
• Time Off:

  • Requested time off must be noted and verified upfront; no requests approved after submission
  • No more than 3 days of time off will be accepted (less is preferred)
  • Only one holiday off will be approved
• Scheduling: Block scheduling will not be considered
• Local Candidates: Travelers residing within 50 miles of the facility will not be considered
• Transportation: Traveler must have their own vehicle

Experience & Qualifications

• Required Specialty Experience: Minimum 3 years of current Pediatric nursing experience
• Preferred Experience: Adult Medical-Surgical experience (for float coverage)
• Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required
• Licenses & Certifications:

  • Massachusetts RN License (must be uploaded with profile)
  • American Heart Association BLS (current)
  • American Heart Association ACLS (current)
  • American Heart Association PALS (current)
• Skills Checklists Required:

  • Pediatric nursing skills checklist (current within 1 year)
  • Medical-Surgical nursing skills checklist (current within 1 year)
• Education: BSN preferred
• Electronic Medical Record: Meditech Expanse experience strongly preferred

Additional Information

• This is a small community hospital pediatric unit, not a pediatric intensive care unit
• No second nurse is scheduled on the unit; backup available from Family Birthplace staff
• Security measures include a panic button on traveler badges for immediate help
• Respiratory and IV therapists are available to cover the unit as needed
• The unit supports family involvement with "rooming in" for parents and has play areas and activities for children without contagious illnesses
• Non-billable orientation includes 8 hours
• Overtime and holiday multipliers apply

Summary

This position is ideal for a dependable, experienced pediatric RN who is comfortable working independently in a small unit with a low patient census. Strong pediatric skills and certifications are required, along with a Massachusetts RN license and current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications. Prior travel experience is not required, but candidates must be reliable with minimal time off requests. The role requires a vehicle and excludes local candidates within 50 miles.
