Registered Nurse - PCU/Oncology
Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Description
- 36-bed specialty care unit serving adult oncology patients receiving chemotherapy or high dose chemotherapy, with or without bone marrow/stem cell transplant.
- Mixed acuity unit; travelers do not administer chemotherapy.
- Multi-care level unit; RNs should be prepared to care for up to five Med Surg patients.
- Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:4 days / 1:5 nights.
- Frequent floating required to meet staffing needs, including to other units such as Neuro, Trauma, Observation, and others within the hospital system.
- 100% nicotine-free facility.
- Weekend shifts: 4 out of 8 possible in a 4-week period.
- Holiday requirement: Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse license in Nebraska (pending license accepted but must be in hand before start).
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing.
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience in a large, urban hospital setting.
- Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, with PCU experience within the last year.
- Oncology experience.
- One completed travel assignment.
- BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NRP certifications issued by the American Heart Association.
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system.
Additional Requirements
- Candidates must live more than 100 miles from the facility (no locals accepted).
- Up to two weeks of requested time off (RTO) permitted, with manager approval for additional time.
- Government-issued photo ID required.
- Background check, including federal and state-level screenings, required within 30 days of start.
- Various certifications and verifications required prior to start, including:
- State license verification and NURSYS verification
- Education verification
- Drug screening within 60 days of start and annually thereafter
- Immunizations and health documents including TB test, MMR, Hepatitis B, Varicella, Tdap, and flu vaccination documentation or declination
- Annual skills checklist and competency exams required.
- References: 2 work references from the past 2 years required.
Work Environment & Notes
- Floating may include multiple units with varying patient populations.
- Scrubs with facility branding are mandatory and provided after confirmation.
- Parking permits available for a monthly fee or daily parking options.
- Strict adherence to facility policies including nicotine-free environment and holiday work requirements.
This position is ideal for experienced oncology or med-surg RNs comfortable with a fast-paced, multi-acuity environment and frequent floating. Prior travel experience and EPIC charting skills are essential.
