Job Opportunity: Clinical Lab Scientist

Location: San Mateo, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

Seeking a Generalist Clinical Lab Scientist (CLS) to cover the night shift, including Blood Bank responsibilities. Candidates must have prior blood bank experience specifically in crossmatch and antibody identification. Experience with EPIC Beaker and SafeTrace TX systems is preferred.


Required Qualifications

  • Valid Clinical Lab Scientist (CLS) license in California
  • Minimum of 1 year of Clinical Lab Scientist (CLS) experience
  • Clinical Lab Scientist (CLS) experience within the last year
  • Prior blood bank crossmatch experience

Certifications & Training Requirements

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA Provider or Instructor card required.
  • Other certifications (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NRP) not required unless applicable to specific units.
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement required.
  • Competency exams as applicable by profession.
  • Annual Skills Checklist required.

Background & Health Requirements

  • Background check within 30 days of start, including county history for the last 7 years and sex offender registry.
  • Negative 10 Panel Drug Screen within 1 year of start.
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, including clearance of communicable diseases.
  • N95 Fit Test within 1 year of start (Max Air CAPR acceptable if N95 failed).
  • Immunizations and titers required or declination accepted for:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years or annual declination)
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (titer or declination)
    • Varicella
  • Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSpot) within 1 year; if positive, chest X-ray and annual questionnaire required.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or facility-specific declination required during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31).
  • COVID-19 vaccination highly recommended but not required; candidates must provide proof of vaccination, medical/religious exemption, or declination.

Documentation Requirements

  • Valid Driver’s License or State ID (color copy required).
  • State license verification within 30 days of start.
  • Professional references: 2 within the last 3 years.
  • HIPAA Manual & Acknowledgement signed prior to start.
  • Other facility-specific attestations and verifications as required.

Additional Notes

  • This position covers night shifts.
  • Experience with specific lab information systems (EPIC Beaker, SafeTrace TX) is preferred but not mandatory.
