Registered Nurse (MS/Tele) - Travel/Contract

Location: Winston Salem, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 12-hour nights (18:45 - 7:15), 4 shifts per week (36 or 48 hours offered)

Job Overview

• Fast-paced medical-surgical unit with orthopedic and neuro spine patients
• Patient population includes orthopedic, neuro spine, med-surg, and post-surgical cases
• Average daily census: 37 patients; 39 beds/rooms
• Patient care includes pain management for ortho and spine patients
• Unit accepts first-time travelers with EPIC experience
• Float requirement: Must float to other med-surg units as needed
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend; missed weekend shifts must be made up on a weekend
• Block scheduling options available (e.g., Fri/Sat/Sun or Sat/Sun/Mon)
• No return to office (RTO) after booking allowed; no holiday RTO approved
• Nurse-to-patient ratio typically 5-6:1, can flex to 7:1 in extreme cases

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Minimum 2 years of experience in medical-surgical and telemetry nursing, with at least some experience within the last year
• Minimum 2 years of orthopedic nursing experience, including orthopedic specialty work
• Orthopedics experience required

Preferred Qualifications

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
• Charge nurse experience
• Level I trauma experience

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

• Background check within 6 months of start (clinical candidates)
• Drug screening (9-panel, within 6 months)
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (or proof of past positive TB with appropriate documentation)
• Immunizations: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (titers or vaccinations required)
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season
• Physical exam and references per travel agency standards (not required by client)
• Photo ID (passport-style photo on white background) required for badge issuance
• Completion of facility-specific orientation and compliance training modules prior to start
• Must complete medication safety training and confidentiality agreement
• Must complete Non-Novant Health Worker Orientation (for North Carolina travel candidates)
• Must complete annual compliance and mandatory education as applicable

Additional Notes

• Maximum 7 days allowed for any time off (RTO) after auto-offer acceptance
• Candidates may be required to float to other med-surg units based on census
• COVID-19 patients are no longer cohorted; care provided on all units unless ICU level
• EKG competency exam remediation process in place if initial attempts are failed
• Facility requires completion of Epic test-out option for earlier in-person start (optional)
• Radiation badges not required for this unit

This position is ideal for experienced orthopedic RNs comfortable with telemetry and fast-paced med-surg environments, willing to float and work night shifts with weekend requirements.
