Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Orthopedics

Location: Burlington, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

  • Work a schedule of 3 twelve-hour night shifts (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM), every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday).
  • No on-call required.
  • Float to other units as needed.
  • Charge RN shifts required as needed.
  • Unit size: 29 beds.
  • Patient population includes adults through geriatrics with orthopedic and medical-surgical needs.
  • Telemetry monitoring available.
  • High volume of patients with total joint replacements, fracture repairs, and kyphoplasties.
  • Moderate volume of other surgical and medical patients, including 24-hour observation.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse license in North Carolina.
  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience, including at least 2 years in orthopedics.
  • Orthopedics experience within the last year.
  • Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment.
  • Experience in Charge RN roles.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • Successful completion of Pass/Fail competency testing for EKG (Dysrhythmia) and medication/pharmacology.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).

Certifications & Exams

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC approved.
  • Pass/Fail Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (must score 82% or higher, 2 attempts allowed).
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement required.
  • Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam (must score 80% or higher).
  • Other certifications may be required based on unit specifics (verify with program management).

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID).
  • Social Security Card.
  • Background check within 60 days covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in the past 7 years.
  • Education verification (Associate’s degree in nursing or higher required).
  • Transcript or diploma may be required for verification.
  • Employment application/resume with 7-year work history.
  • Verification of all employment within the last 5 years through a third-party vendor.
  • Two supervisory references required (one within 12 months, one within 24 months).
  • Badge photo meeting strict facility requirements (no selfies, solid color background, business casual or uniform attire).
  • Health documents including:
    • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 40 days of start.
    • Immunizations and titers: Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap, Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (titer or declination).
    • Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually.
    • Negative TB test (Qgold/TSPOT) within 6 months or chest x-ray if positive history.
    • Fit mask test (N95) completed within current calendar year and updated annually.

Work Environment & Expectations

  • Zero tolerance policy for tardiness and unexcused absences.
  • Flexibility with scheduling required.
  • Must complete all compliance requirements by the deadline prior to start date.
  • Floating to other units may be required.
  • Charge RN responsibilities expected as needed.

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must be aware of and agree to the Pass/Fail EKG exam requirement.
  • Candidates must complete a health history form and other facility-specific onboarding documents prior to clearance.
  • Facility requires strict adherence to education and licensure verification policies.
  • Candidates with education obtained outside the U.S. must provide foreign equivalency evaluation documentation.
  • Fingerprinting required only for Home Health and Long-Term Care positions (not applicable here).

This position is ideal for experienced RNs with orthopedic and medical-surgical nursing skills who have prior travel nursing experience and are comfortable working night shifts with charge nurse responsibilities.
