Echo Tech Cardiac Sonographer Pediatrics (Travel/Contract)
Location: San Luis Obispo, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day (3 shifts of 12 hours each, 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
Hours per Week: 36
Job Summary
- Assist with cardiovascular and non-invasive studies or treatments.
- Perform M-Mode with calculations, 2-D procedures with all necessary views and calculations, and Doppler echo with analysis.
- Obtain and interpret information tailored to patient age-specific needs (Pediatric, Adult, Neonate).
- Anticipate physician needs and identify potential patient problems.
- Perform peripheral vascular procedures including arterial Doppler, venous Doppler, segmental pressures, ankle-arm index, carotid ultrasound.
- Conduct tilt table exams, treadmills, 24-hour Holters, and pharmacological studies.
- Precept and mentor new staff members.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Vascular Sonographer, including experience within the last year.
- Experience as a Cardiac Sonographer.
- Experience in Pediatric Echocardiography.
- Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS).
- Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT).
- Pediatric Echocardiography (PE) certification.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- Certification from ARDMS or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI).
Required Compliance and Documentation
- Current picture identification (Driver’s License or State ID).
- Background check within 30 days of start covering last 7 years of residence and work history, including social security trace, county/state/federal court jurisdictions, OIG, OFAC, SAM, FACIS 3, National Sex Offender, and DMV/MVR if driving is required.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start.
- Physical exam within 90 days of start.
- Drug testing within 30 days before start including panels for amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, methamphetamine, methadone, opiates, oxycodone, PCP.
- Negative TB test (QGold or TSpot) required and must be updated annually. Chest X-Ray if history of positive TB.
- Required vaccinations or positive titers for:
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella
- Hepatitis B (series or signed declination)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or facility-specific declination/exemption required during flu season (Oct 31 - Apr 30).
- Seasonal COVID-19 booster required or facility-specific declination form.
- Photo for badge (passport style, high resolution, no filters/selfies).
- Completion of employment application/resume with 7-year work history including gaps.
- Two clinical references verified within one year of start.
- Unit-specific skills checklist required.
Certifications (May be required depending on unit)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA or ARC required.
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – AHA or ARC required.
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – AAP/AHA or ARC required.
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) – May be required.
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) – May be required.
- Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) or Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) – May be required depending on unit.
- NIH Stroke Certification – Annual update required.
- Competency exams including Medication Test/Pharmacology, Dysrhythmia/EKG, Conscious Sedation, and general competency exams through Relias.
Essential Functions
- Perform comprehensive echocardiography procedures on adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients.
- Document all required information and data accurately.
- Stay current with advances in cardiovascular techniques and equipment.
- Mentor and precept new staff.
- Perform additional job-related duties as assigned.
