Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Job Description

• Position on the Med Surg (MS) Float Unit with patient ratios of 4-6:1.
• Float assignments include AU, OSU, GSU, NVU, CAR, GMU, AMU, EMCU, and occasionally Critical Care units for overflow Med Surg/IMC patients.
• Must be comfortable working with both MS patient ratios.
• Orientation required during the first 2 weeks of assignment.
• Guaranteed 36 hours per week with option to pick up additional shifts.
• Every other weekend required.
• Block scheduling cannot be guaranteed.
• Holiday time off requests limited to one holiday or one adjacent day only (e.g., Thanksgiving Day OR the day after, not both).

Experience & Certifications

• Minimum 1 year of specialty experience required (accepting first-year travelers).
• Prior travel experience is NOT required.
• Required certifications:

  • ACLS (AHA)
  • BCLS (AHA)

Required Documentation & Compliance

• I-9 and E-Verify documentation.
• Government-issued photo ID.
• Criminal background check within 45 days of start, including lifetime search back to age 18.
• Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks.
• Education verification (copy of highest degree or diploma).
• Michigan-specific requirements:

  • MI LARA fingerprinting within 45 days of start (for certain positions).
  • Michigan Central Registry Clearance for pediatric and select specialty placements.
• Physical exam within 1 year of start.
• Drug testing: 10-panel including Marijuana/THC within 45 days of start.
• Immunizations and health requirements:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (must include pertussis).
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 45 days of start.
  • Annual TB questionnaire.
  • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella (2 vaccines or positive titer).
  • Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination).
  • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer).
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption (for candidates starting after Nov 1).

Additional Requirements

• One professional reference from a supervisor or manager required.
• Complete employment application/resume with full 7 years work history, no gaps.
• Annual competency exams and medication/pharmacology competency within 1 year prior to assignment start.
• Orientation Safety Manual acknowledgment required.
• Facility-specific policies including Code of Conduct, Appearance Standards, and vaccine exemption forms as applicable.
• Fit testing required onsite (Honeywell DC365N95HC) for certain roles; appointment must be scheduled and documented.

Scheduling & Work Conditions

• Must be available for orientation during first 2 weeks.
• 36 hours guaranteed weekly, with optional extra shifts.
• Every other weekend required.
• Holiday time off limited as described above.
• No guaranteed block schedule.

This position is ideal for Registered Nurses with at least 1 year of Med Surg experience who are comfortable floating across multiple units and working flexible schedules including weekends and holidays. First-year travelers are welcome to apply.
