Experience Requirements

  • Years of Experience: Minimum 2 years of acute care hospital case management experience, specifically in care coordination and discharge planning

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support): Must be AHA or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation certification

  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support): Must be AHA or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation certification
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program): Current certification by AAP, AHA, or Canadian Paediatric Society

Required Background and Compliance Checks

  • Background check within 45 days of start covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years; must be updated annually
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start, updated monthly
  • Education verification required for all candidates; international education requires additional documentation
  • State-specific searches and registry checks as applicable (e.g., Washington state patrol and OBRA registry for CNAs)
  • Drug screening: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
  • References: Minimum 2 supervisor references covering 1 year of employment in a comparable specialty within the last 3 years

Health and Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO
  • Fit mask test (N95 or equivalent) required annually; may be completed onsite if no recent record
  • Immunizations or proof of immunity required for:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years or declination)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer)
    • Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination
    • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
    • Seasonal Flu vaccine or declination during flu season
    • COVID-19 vaccine or declination
  • Respiratory safety clearance required annually for respirator use (travel only)

Competency and Skills Requirements

  • Medication test/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
  • Unit-specific competency exams and skills checklists may be required annually
  • Color blindness testing if specifically requested
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) and Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) certifications may be required based on clinical track

Facility-Specific Training and Modules

  • Completion of Providence Health and Services WorkRamp modules required prior to start, including:
    • Core modules by profession and region
    • Specialty-specific modules for ER, L&D, and leadership roles
    • Regional core and specialty modules for CA and OR placements
    • Annual regulatory requirements modules
  • Epic training modules required for certain regions and specialties, to be completed within a week of orientation

Additional Requirements

  • Photo for badge (passport style with neutral background) required
  • Employment application covering at least last 5 years (7 years for APN/subcontractors)
  • Skills checklist updated annually for applicable units
  • Fire Card certification required; may be completed within 30 days post-start if all attempts made prior to start

This position is ideal for RNs with acute care hospital case management experience who are licensed in California and ready for a 13-week travel assignment in an acute care setting with weekend rotations. Compliance with Providence Health and Services’ extensive credentialing, immunization, and training requirements is mandatory.
