Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Rehab) - Travel/Contract

Location: Overland Park, Kansas
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

  • Position: Registered Nurse (Rehab)
  • Facility Type: 30-bed acute med-surg with emphasis on rehab services
  • Average Daily Census: 24-30 patients
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:6 on all shifts
  • Charting System: EPIC
  • Scrub Color: Navy blue for RNs
  • Floating: Regular floating may be required between departments, units, and facilities as needed
  • Weekend Requirement: Minimum of 8 weekend shifts per 6 weeks
  • Holiday Requirement: Yes, if holiday falls on scheduled days
  • Local Candidates: Not accepted (home address must be at least 75 miles from facility)
  • Return to Office Restrictions: No more than 7 days
  • Guaranteed Hours: 3 shifts per 13 weeks (cancelled shifts must be regular shift length)
  • Block Schedule: Not accommodated

Required Experience & Skills

  • Minimum Years of Experience: 1 year in specialty (Registered Nurse - Rehab)
  • First-time travelers accepted: Yes
  • Required Certifications: BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • Required Skills:
    • Acute Rehab hospital experience
    • Telemetry (on-unit monitoring and remote monitoring)
    • Blood glucose monitoring and insulin protocols
    • Thickened liquids management
    • Foley catheter removal
    • Administration of blood and blood products
    • Central line care (PICC lines)
    • Starting and maintaining IVs
    • Pulse oximetry
    • Fall risk assessment and prevention
    • Infection prevention and isolation precautions/PPE
  • Prior travel experience: Not explicitly required

Required Licenses & Certifications

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license for Kansas (no pending state license accepted)
  • BLS certification (AHA only; completion cards acceptable for up to 1 month until official card issued)
  • Additional certifications may be required based on unit (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC, CPI/MAB) – check unit-specific requirements
  • NURSYS verification required for RN license
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Fit mask (N95) required and must be renewed annually
  • Immunizations and health documents required:
    • Tdap vaccine or declination (expires every 10 years)
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination as applicable
    • Drug testing within 1 year of start, including specific drug panels
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season (09/30 - 04/01)

Compliance & Background Checks

  • Criminal background check within 6 months of start (7-year search including statewide and nationwide checks)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks quarterly
  • Fingerprinting required for assignments in Illinois long-term care or rehab units
  • Education verification of highest nursing degree required (cannot pend at start)
  • State-specific searches and registries as applicable (Missouri and Illinois)
  • Various facility-specific documents required prior to start, including:
    • HIPAA Acknowledgement
    • Latex Allergy Questionnaire
    • Confidentiality Form
    • Regulatory Compliance Education (annual quiz with 80% passing score)
    • Hepatitis B declination (facility-specific)
    • TB Questionnaire (annual)
    • Hand Hygiene, Fingernail, Dress Code policies acknowledgment
    • Orientation modules (approx. 16 hours, completed via WorkRamp)

Additional Requirements

  • Unit-specific skills checklist required within 1 year of start (Oncology skills checklist required for Med Surg-Oncology Unit)
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required as applicable
  • Color blindness testing within 12 months of start
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 12 months for certain units
  • References: Two professional references required (supervisors preferred)
  • Employment application must be completed and uploaded
