Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Labor & Delivery)

Job Description

• Position: Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse at a community hospital
• Required Experience: Minimum 2 years in Labor & Delivery
• Prior Travel Experience: Not required (1st time travelers are welcome)
• Shift: Every Other (E/O) weekend required
• Orientation: 12 hours

Required Skills & Experience

• Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced Fetal Monitoring experience
• Facility births per month: 100-200
• Labor and Delivery nursing skills including:

  • Assist with sterile speculum exam (effacement, dilation, station, presentation)
  • NST (Non-Stress Tests)
  • Reflex checks, edema assessment, clonus
  • Sterile vaginal exam
  • Use and recognition of Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) and External Fetal Monitoring
  • Recognition and treatment of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns
  • Start and maintain peripheral IVs, use infusion pumps/drips/IV monitoring
  • Administration and monitoring of medications including anticonvulsants, antihypertensives, insulin drips, magnesium sulfate therapy, Pitocin (oxytocin), prostaglandins, terbutaline, amnioinfusion
  • Assist with vaginal delivery and circulate/recover for C-section
  • Collect cord samples, ID/security banding
  • Neonatal resuscitation and infant identification
  • Epidural and general anesthesia support
  • Pain assessment and management, including opioids
  • Breastfeeding/lactation support
  • Episiotomy/incisional care, Foley catheter insertion
  • Fundus, lochia, perineum care
  • Management of vaginal delivery, cesarean section, bladder distension, multiple births
  • Postpartum hemorrhage management
  • Pregnancy-induced hypertension
  • Dilation & Curettage (D & C) and tubal ligation assistance

Required Certifications

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
• AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring
• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)

Preferred Certification:

• AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring

Technology & Systems

• Omnicell medication system
• Meditech Expanse EMR
• SBAR communication method

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

• Background checks including SS trace, county searches, nationwide sex offender, and international searches if applicable
• Drug screening (10-panel including THC) within 30 days of start
• Immunizations and titers: Tdap, Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 90 days (with additional requirements if past positive)
• COVID vaccination plus booster or approved exemption
• Fit mask testing prior to start
• Physical exam within last 12 months
• Various facility-specific acknowledgments and signed documents (e.g., Code of Conduct, Confidentiality Agreement, Abuse Reporting, Drug-Free Workplace)
• Professional references (2 within last 2 years)
• Skills checklist and work history verification

Additional Notes

• This position does not require prior travel experience.
• The hospital supports a multidisciplinary team including interpretation services, IV teams, pharmacy, physical therapy, radiology, rapid response, respiratory services, social services, transportation, and unit secretaries.
• Provider coverage includes hospitalists and anesthesiologists.

This role is ideal for a Labor & Delivery RN with at least 2 years of experience seeking a travel contract in California with comprehensive fetal monitoring and delivery skills.
