Job Opportunity: MS/Tele Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Durham, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Overview

  • Specialty: Medical-Surgical/Telemetry (MS/Tele) Registered Nurse
  • Schedule: No blocked schedule requests
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Patient Ratio: 1:4
  • Scrubs Color: Royal Blue
  • Orientation: Bi-weekly starts (3/9 and 3/23; 3/9 starts prioritized)
  • Flu Vaccine: Required, no exemptions or declinations accepted

Required Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of recent experience in MS/Telemetry
  • Also accepting RNs with Emergency Department (ED) or Clinical Evaluation Unit backgrounds
  • EPIC charting experience required

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) preferred; training provided onsite if not currently held

Licensure

  • Must have a current North Carolina RN license or a Compact RN license

Additional Requirements

  • Candidates must have completed all required background checks and verifications within 90 days of start, including:
    • Background check covering all counties lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 12 months
  • Required immunizations/vaccinations:
    • Flu vaccine (mandatory, no exemptions)
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (vaccines or positive titers required; no exemptions)
    • Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
    • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters if low/equivocal)
    • Polio vaccine or signed attestation
  • Negative 10-panel drug test within 30 days of start (instant tests not accepted)
  • Two professional references from employment within 12 months, including at least one supervisor
  • Employment application and skills checklist (updated annually) required

Work Environment & Other Details

  • Local candidates within 75 miles considered at a local rate
  • First-time travel nurses are welcome
  • Local candidates are also eligible
  • Duke Guest Account setup required prior to clearance for access to orientation and work systems
  • Competency exams and unit-specific training required during orientation
  • Candidates must complete online modules prior to orientation
  • Candidate Behavioral Objectives (CBOs) must be completed within 3 weeks after start date

Summary

This is a travel/contract Registered Nurse position in MS/Telemetry with a 13-week contract in Durham, NC. The role requires at least 2 years of recent MS/Telemetry nursing experience (or ED/clinical evaluation unit experience), EPIC charting skills, and current NC or Compact RN licensure. ACLS and BLS certifications are mandatory, with CPI preferred. Flu vaccination is strictly required.
