Registered Nurse (ICU) - Per Diem

Location: Fountain Valley, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)

Job Description

• ICU RNs needed for per diem shifts.
• Work settings include Neuro Intensive Care Unit and Surgical Intensive Care Unit.
• Must be willing and comfortable to float to lower acuity units based on facility needs (Med/Surg, Med/Surg Telemetry, Telemetry, ED Holding).
• Orientation will not be provided; clinicians must be prepared to work independently after completing pre-start modules.
• Pre-start modules require approximately 8 hours to complete.
• Night shift hours: 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM.
• Pre-booking available via app; clinicians can submit availability for proactive marketing.
• Cancellation policy: Removal from pool if 2 shifts are canceled within 24 hours of shift start in a 30-day period.
• Scrubs color: Navy Blue.
• Separation period from MemorialCare: 18 months for previous staff/travelers before re-approval.

Requirements

• Minimum 1 year recent experience as a staff ICU RN or 2 years as a travel ICU RN.
• Active RN license in California.
• Certifications: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), NIH Stroke Certification.
• Epic electronic health record experience required.
• Two professional references required, with at least one supervisor reference within the last 12 months.
• Must pass required competency exams including medication and EKG/dysrhythmia competency.

Orientation & Training

• No formal orientation provided on-site.
• Must complete 8 hours of pre-start modules independently.
• EPIC Education Certificate of Completion required before clearance.
• HIPAA education module completion required before EPIC modules.
• Facility-specific quizzes (Safe Patient Handling, Orientation Quiz) must be passed with 100% compliance; three attempts allowed. Failure results in cancellation.
• Various facility-specific acknowledgments and reporting statements must be reviewed and signed prior to start (e.g., Adult Abuse, Child Abuse, Domestic Violence, Elder Abuse).

Health & Compliance Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start date.
• Fit mask test required annually; must be arranged with Employee Health for this facility.
• Immunizations and titers required:

  • TDAP vaccine within last 10 years (declination allowed).
  • Negative TB test (QGOLD, TSPOT, or 2-step PPD) within 1 year, updated annually.
  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines (booster if low/equivocal).
  • Hepatitis B surface antibody titer required (declination allowed if low/equivocal).
  • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines (declination allowed if low/equivocal).
• Seasonal flu vaccine required November 1 - April 30 (declination allowed with masking).
• COVID-19 vaccine is not mandatory; vaccination records collected if available. Masking policies apply in LA County only.
• Negative 9-panel drug screen within 1 year (instant drug screen acceptable; marijuana panel excluded due to California law). Saliva testing may be required for THC if mandated by client.

Background & History Checks

• Standard background check within 1 year, updated annually, including:

  • 7-year SS trace, county searches, nationwide, sex offender registry.
• EPLS/GSA/SAM checks required.
• HHS/OIG checks required.
• Employment application and skills checklist required.
• Annual internal evaluation if employed for 1 year or more.

Additional Notes

• Candidates with 2 or more attendance/performance issues or clinician pipeline cancellations must provide additional references or a written statement demonstrating improvement, with at least 6 months since last issue.
• Facility completes performance evaluations post-start; no action required from candidate for clearance.
• Agency badge and clear headshot photo required for badge issuance.
• Various facility policies (drug and alcohol, hand hygiene, dress and appearance) must be reviewed prior to start.

This position is ideal for experienced ICU RNs comfortable with independent work, night shifts, and flexible floating to different acuity units within the hospital system.
