Medical Assistant - Travel/Contract Position

Location: Los Angeles, California
Shift: 8 hours between 6:00 AM - 6:00 PM
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Required Experience & Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • BLS certification (AHA or ARC)
  • Flu vaccination (no exemptions or declinations accepted)
  • Medical Assistant Certificate/Diploma from a DAPIP-accredited program OR national certification through AAMA, AMCA, AMT, CCBMA, or MMCI
  • Experience with medical insurance, referral processes, and benefit plans
  • Ability to prepare patients for examination by performing preliminary physical tests (blood pressure, weight, temperature) and reporting patient history
  • Minimum 2 years working as a Medical Assistant in an outpatient clinic or medical office
  • At least 1 year of experience in an OBGYN setting
  • Proficiency in blood/lab draws and venipuncture

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2+ years as a Medical Assistant in outpatient OBGYN
  • Experience with CS-Link/Epic electronic health records
  • Experience with Quest Diagnostic laboratory submissions
  • Phlebotomy certification
  • Understanding of medical terminology

Required OBGYN Procedure Experience

  • PAP smears
  • Colposcopy (Coplo)
  • LEEP procedures
  • D&C (Dilation and Curettage)
  • Endometrial Biopsy (EMB)
  • IUD insertions and removals
  • Nexplanon insertions/removals
  • Non-Stress Tests (NST)

Job Duties

  • Greet patients and take vital signs
  • Review and record current medications in medical records
  • Assist with tracking and monitoring department-specific data
  • Explain policies, procedures, or services to patients within scope of practice
  • Set up exam and procedure rooms according to patient visit needs
  • Clean and reprocess equipment and supplies per department guidelines
  • Administer immunizations, injections, or oral medications as directed by provider
  • Draw and prepare lab specimens as directed by provider

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID required
  • Background check including 7-year criminal history, SSN trace, nationwide search, sex offender search, federal district court search, and international criminal searches if applicable
  • Education verification including transcript/diploma from DAPIP-accredited program
  • Proof of highest medical degree
  • Required certifications: BLS (Basic Life Support), ACLS, PALS, NRP, EFM, and others as applicable
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start
  • Required immunizations and titers: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
  • Drug screening panel within 1 year of start (excluding Marijuana/THC)
  • Flu vaccination required annually during flu season (no declinations accepted; exemptions reviewed case-by-case)
  • Two professional references required, including one supervisory reference

Additional Notes

  • Photo for badge must meet strict facility requirements (passport-style photo)
  • Candidates must sign facility-specific documents including Code of Conduct, Attendance Policy, Job Hazard Analysis, and Safe Work Practices
  • Medication and competency exams required per facility standards
  • Fire Card required if working at the facility for 6 months or more (onsite course provided)

This position requires strong OBGYN procedural skills, outpatient experience, and compliance with strict healthcare facility credentialing and immunization standards.
