Job Opportunity: Critical Care Float Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Cartersville, Georgia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Day (3 shifts of 12 hours each, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM)
Hours per Week: 36


Unit & Job Details

  • Position is for hospital float pool staff, expected to float throughout multiple units including:
    • Emergency Department (ED)
    • ER Hold
    • Medical Surgical
    • Telemetry
    • Stepdown/Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
  • This is a float pool position requiring flexibility; no block schedule requests allowed.
  • Weekend work every other weekend.
  • No on-call required.
  • Must be flexible with scheduling due to pool staffing needs.

Contract Length

  • 10 weeks

Requirements / Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Georgia
  • Minimum of 1 year of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience within the last year
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience working in a float pool or demonstrated float experience

Compliance & Orientation

  • Full compliance with all requirements is mandatory to start on time.
  • Orientation is bi-weekly; failure to comply on time may delay start by 2 weeks.
  • Number of non-billable orientation hours depends on contract length (e.g., 10 hours for 10-week assignment).

Holidays

  • If one major holiday falls during the assignment, the nurse is expected to work it.
  • If two major holidays fall during the assignment, both must be worked.
  • If three major holidays fall during the assignment, two must be worked.
  • Major holidays include: Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day, New Year’s Eve/Day.

Health & Background Requirements

  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start (includes amphetamines, benzodiazepines, barbiturates, cocaine, opiates, methadone, PCP, propoxyphene, THC).
  • Background check required within 30 days of start, including education verification and criminal history.
  • Physical exam statement within 12 months of start (agency requirement).
  • Immunizations/vaccinations required or proof of immunity:
    • TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months (with TB questionnaire updated annually).
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) – 2 vaccines or positive titer with boosters if needed.
    • Varicella – 2 vaccines or positive titer with boosters if needed.
    • Hepatitis B surface antibody titer or signed declination.
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap highly recommended but not required.
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination required during flu season (Nov 1 – Mar 31).

Documentation & Verification

  • Two clinical references required (agency requirement).
  • Skills checklist updated within the last 12 months.
  • Verification of most recent employer required; can be pending at start with proof it is in process.
  • State license and certifications must be verified within 30 days prior to start.
  • Annual NURSYS verification required for RN license.

Additional Notes

  • Local candidates accepted at the same rate as travelers.
  • Candidates must review and sign facility-specific policies including Code of Conduct and Dress/Professional Appearance Policy prior to start.
  • Flexibility and willingness to float across multiple units is essential.
  • No block scheduling or fixed schedule requests due to float pool nature.
