Dietitian Travel/Contract Position

Location: Visalia, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Shift: Variable; must work 8-hour shifts and attend meetings
  • Hours: 40 hours per week (typically Day shift, 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM)
  • Experience Required: Minimum 5 years in Dietary Services

Job Responsibilities

  • Assess and screen high-risk patients for optimal nutrition
  • Develop and follow up on nutritional treatment plans in collaboration with interdisciplinary teams, patients, and families
  • Formulate individualized Nutrition Care Plans and MDS plans for long-term care patients
  • Provide timely nutrition information and recommendations to physicians; document in medical records
  • Deliver tailored nutrition education to patients and caregivers, considering medical needs, cultural preferences, and patient readiness
  • Participate as a nutrition consultant in Continuum of Care Meetings, interdisciplinary meetings, unit rounds, and family conferences
  • Continuously improve nutritional care through monitoring, planning, implementation, reassessment, and education
  • Contribute to development of clinical nutrition Standards of Care and continuous quality improvement

Additional Responsibilities (if applicable):

  • Renal Dietitian: Research renal nutrition, compile patient info and educational materials, provide staff in-services
  • Pediatric/NICU Dietitian: Oversee pediatric/infant formula management, provide nutritional counseling to parents/guardians
  • Diabetic Educator: Coordinate patient scheduling with RN/CDE and social services, participate in diabetes center meetings and outreach, provide staff education
  • Long Term Care/Rehabilitation/Mental Health: Oversee compliance and foodservice areas

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) license in California
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN)
  • Demonstrated RDN experience within the last year

Certifications & Training Requirements

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) – AHA only, must be immediately available throughout assignment
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – AHA only, required unless working in dialysis or as LVN/LPN in ER
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit assignment (e.g., PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM) – verify based on specific unit
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement
  • Harassment Prevention Training (annual update required)
  • Competency exams including medication, fall prevention, and unit-specific testing (minimum 80% score)
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification if assigned to ER or Behavioral Health units

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • Criminal background check within 90 days of start, including 7-year search with multiple components (SSN trace, aliases, county and federal searches, FACIS screening)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated annually
  • Sex offender search within 90 days of start
  • Primary source verification of professional license within 30 days of start
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start (Marijuana testing not accepted)
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start verifying ability to perform job duties and clearance of communicable diseases
  • Fit mask test within 1 year prior to start (Alpha Pro Tech N95 or 3M 8210)
  • Immunizations or proof of immunity for: Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B (titer or declination), Varicella
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility protocol, plus annual TB questionnaire
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination during flu season (10/01–3/31); masking required if declining
  • COVID-19 vaccination required unless exemption granted with weekly testing

  • Badge photo meeting facility standards (passport style, plain background, no hats/masks/filters)
  • Signed job description acknowledgment
  • Signed fingernail hygiene policy
  • Review and sign orientation packet acknowledgment
  • Confidential information and confidentiality agreement forms
  • Flu and Hepatitis B declination forms if applicable
  • Hand hygiene and elder & dependent abuse quizzes
  • Mandatory annual training study guide completion
  • WorkDay time instructions acknowledgment
  • COVID-19 screening questionnaire
  • Sexual harassment prevention training certificate
  • COVID-19 vaccine and booster exemption forms if applicable
  • Implicit bias training certificate
  • Hazardous drug acknowledgment of risk
  • Aerosol transmissible diseases training
  • Employee health TB risk assessment and questionnaire

Additional Notes

  • Must present current government-issued photo ID (driver’s license, passport, or state ID) upon arrival
  • Skills checklist required, unit-specific
  • Radiation badge provided on-site if working in Radiology
