Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Escondido, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours
Job Description
- Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse position with night shifts.
- Labor RNs may float to Postpartum (PP) and Poway Campus.
- Cerner EMR charting system used.
- No local candidates accepted.
- No first-time travelers; prior travel experience required.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in California.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery experience, with at least some experience within the last year.
- Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment.
- Certifications:
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM)
- AWHONN Fetal Heart Monitoring
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Valid Driver’s License or State ID (front and back copy).
- Background checks within 30 days of start, including:
- 7-year county and national criminal search
- Sex offender search
- FACIS Level 3 (OIG/GSA)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM verification (monthly updates required)
- HHS/OIG checks (every 30 days during assignment)
- NURSYS license verification.
- Negative 9-panel drug test within 30 days prior to start.
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, DO, PA, or NP.
- Fit mask test within 12 months of start (annual renewal required for direct hires).
- Immunizations or proof of immunity for:
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (vaccination series, positive titer, or declination)
- Varicella
- TB screening (2-step PPD, Q-Gold, or T-spot) within 1 year, updated annually.
- Annual TB questionnaire if past positive.
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination form required prior to October 31.
- COVID vaccination preferred; declination form accepted if unvaccinated.
- Badge photo with white background required prior to start.
- Online orientation and facility-specific training modules required.
- Medication and unit specialty competency exams with minimum 80% pass rate, to be completed within 12 months of start.
- Pass/fail arrhythmia exam prior to start.
- References: Two references from a manager, supervisor, or charge RN within the last 3 years.
- Employment application and annual skills checklist required.
Additional Notes
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training is not required for this position.
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) is preferred but not mandatory.
- Candidates must carry copies of all required certifications at all times.
- Candidates must be prepared for compliance with ongoing background and health screenings throughout the assignment.
This position is ideal for experienced Labor and Delivery RNs with prior travel contract experience seeking a night shift travel assignment in California.
