Job Opportunity: Acute Care Float Registered Nurse

Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 18 weeks


Job Description

  • Holiday coverage required: work 2 of the 3 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's).
  • Shift option: Night shift, 4 shifts per 4-week period, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM).
  • Must be prepared to float frequently to various units to meet staffing needs, including a sister campus 16 minutes away.
  • Units may include medical-surgical, telemetry, neuro, trauma, oncology, transplant, cardiac, and observation units.
  • Drip medication administration required on all floors.
  • EPIC electronic charting experience required.
  • First-time travel nurses not accepted unless they have 2 years of experience at a Level I Academic Medical Center.
  • Facility is 100% nicotine-free.
  • Weekend shifts: 4 out of 8 possible in a 4-week period (Saturday and Sunday days; Friday and Saturday nights).
  • Return to Office (RTO) requests allowed up to two weeks, must be submitted with application. Additional requests at manager discretion.
  • Local candidates not accepted (must live more than 100 miles from facility).
  • Pending license accepted if not in hand at submission, but booking will be six weeks out.
  • Mandatory scrubs: Steele gray with facility logo (provided after confirmation).
  • Parking permit available (~$55/month) or daily parking rates.

Required Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse license valid in Nebraska.
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience in a large, urban hospital setting.
  • Prior travel experience not explicitly required but first-time travelers generally not accepted unless experienced at a Level I Academic Medical Center.
  • Certifications:
    • BLS required.
    • ACLS strongly preferred.
  • Experience with EPIC charting system.
  • Ability to float within scope of practice across multiple units and campuses.

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID required.
  • Background check within 30 days of start, including multi-county and nationwide checks.
  • SAM and OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated monthly.
  • Education verification required.
  • State-specific abuse/neglect registry check required.
  • Primary source license verification and NURSYS verification required.
  • Orientation safety manual acknowledgement required.
  • Health documents required and must be current:
    • Physical exam within 1 year, updated annually.
    • Fit mask test within 1 year, updated annually (specific mask models required).
    • Tdap vaccine within last 10 years.
    • Annual TB testing or chest x-ray if history positive.
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer with boosters as needed.
    • Hepatitis B titer or declination.
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer with boosters as needed.
    • Drug screen within 60 days of start, updated annually.
    • Flu vaccine preferred (documentation or declination required).
    • COVID vaccine preferred; exemptions accepted.
  • Two professional references from the past 2 years required.
  • Annual skills checklist required.
  • Additional certifications may be required depending on unit assignment (e.g., PALS, NRP, ACLS).

Additional Notes

  • Travelers are assigned to units based on experience; preferences should be communicated at submission.
  • Care teams include CNAs, care techs, transport team, paramedics, and LPNs on some floors.
  • Facility is a large academic medical center with a wide range of specialty units and complex patient care.
  • Scrubs and branded apparel are mandatory and provided after confirmation.
  • Parking options available for staff.

This position is ideal for experienced RNs comfortable with floating across multiple acute care units in a large, urban academic medical center setting, with strong clinical skills including drip management and EPIC charting.
