Neuro ICU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Seattle, Washington
Duration: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)

Job Description
- Provide nursing care in a Neuro ICU setting with a strong focus on neurological patients.
- Patient population includes hemorrhagic stroke, subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), aneurysms, vascular malformations, traumatic brain injury (TBI), spinal cord injury (SCI), tumor removals, ischemic stroke requiring tPA or thrombectomy, seizure disorders, and neuro infections.
- Unit is a comprehensive accredited stroke unit.
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:2 for both day and night shifts.
- Floating to other ICUs or boarders may be required within scope.
- Weekend work required every other weekend.
- First-time travelers may be considered if they have prior Level 1 trauma experience and a strong work history; seasoned travelers are auto-offered.
- Locals within the area are accepted.
- No on-call requirement.
- Block scheduling is not accommodated.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Washington State.
- Minimum 2 years of Neuro ICU experience, with Neuro ICU experience within the last year.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
- Proficient in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias.
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check required within 45 days of start, including nationwide and sex offender searches.
- Education verification required.
- WA WATCH search required for Washington state licensure.
- Photo for badge must meet professional standards.
- Various facility-specific acknowledgments and forms must be signed (e.g., license acknowledgment, equipment safety, policies and procedures, job description, PCIS agreement, personal data form).
- Two professional references required.
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year prior to start (not required by facility but needed for agency).
- Mask fit test within 12 months of start (specific mask models required).
- Tdap vaccine within 10 years or signed declination.
- Negative TB test (Qgold, Tspot, or 2-step PPD) within 90 days of start; annual TB questionnaire required.
- Immunizations or titers required for:
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (positive titer or declination; vaccine series plus confirmatory titer required)
- Varicella
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination required during flu season (09/29 - 03/31).
- COVID-19 vaccination or declination required for tracking purposes.
Additional Notes
- Orientation includes pass/fail testing with an 80% passing score required; failure results in cancellation.
- Dysrhythmia competency exam must be completed and on file 10 days prior to start.
- Shuttle service available for offsite parking (weekday use only).
- Facility uses Epic for charting with hard stops.
- Scrub color: any solid color allowed; light blue scrubs provided on unit.
Prior Travel Experience
- Not explicitly required; first-time travelers may be considered if they meet trauma and work history criteria.
This position is ideal for experienced Neuro ICU RNs with strong neurological and telemetry skills seeking a 13-week travel contract on night shifts in a Level I trauma, Magnet, teaching hospital environment.
