Job Opportunity: Cyto Tech (Travel/Contract)

Location

  • Springfield, Illinois

Contract Length

  • 13 weeks

Work Schedule

  • Day shift, Monday to Friday
  • 5 days per week, 8 hours per day (7:00 AM – 3:30 PM)
  • No weekend shifts required
  • No on-call duties
  • No floating outside scope of practice
  • Block scheduling not accommodated

Required Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a Cytotechnologist, including experience within the last year
  • Outpatient laboratory experience required
  • Active ASCP certification required
  • First-time travel candidates accepted
  • Prior travel experience not required

Technical Skills & Procedures

  • Non-Gynecological specimen experience: Ascitic fluid, esophageal, gastric, Thin-Prep
  • Respiratory tract specimen experience: Bronchial
  • Body fluid testing: Urine
  • Fine needle aspiration: Assist, make smears, preliminary diagnosis, staining

Certifications & Licenses

  • Active ASCP-CT certification required

Facility & Work Environment

  • Acute care hospital with 372 staffed beds
  • Level II Trauma center
  • Charting system: Cerner
  • Scrub color provided
  • Parking permit required but no cost for parking

Compliance & Onboarding Requirements

  • Must be physically present in Illinois at least 3 business days prior to start date for fingerprinting (cannot be done out of state)
  • Background checks required within 30 days of start, including:
    • Criminal, sex offender, and national databases
    • State-specific offender and registry searches
  • Drug screening: 9-panel drug test within 30 days of start
  • Health documents required within 7 days of contract signing:
    • Physical exam confirming good health and ability to perform job functions
    • Fit mask test (3M 1860 or 1870 series) unless PAPR required
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray if positive TB within past year
    • Immunizations or proof of immunity for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
    • Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually by November 30
  • Competency exam required for all clinical candidates
  • Professional references: 2 required for clinical travel candidates
  • Badge photo required within one week of contract signing
  • Completion and signing of facility-specific documents including code of conduct and parking permit form

This position offers a guaranteed 40-hour workweek with a stable day shift schedule in a Level II Trauma acute care hospital setting. It is suitable for Cytotechnologists with outpatient lab experience seeking a travel contract in Illinois.

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a Cytotechnologist, including experience within the last year
  • Experience in an outpatient setting
  • Experience with Ascitic fluid, esophageal, gastric, spinal, and Thin-Prep specimens
  • Experience with Bronchial specimens
  • Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) experience including assisting, preliminary diagnosis, and staining
  • PAP experience
