Job Opportunity: Emergency Room Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Lansing, Michigan
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Evening (3 shifts of 12 hours each, 1:00 PM to 1:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 36
Job Description
- Emergency Room nursing position at a Level 1 Trauma Center with Stroke and Heart Center designations, including a Pediatric Emergency Department.
- Floating to Pediatrics possible.
- Weekend requirement: Work 3 weekends (Friday-Sunday) per 4-week schedule; may work 1 to all 3 weekend days.
- No on-call duties.
- High patient-to-nurse ratios expected (typically 1:5-6, potentially up to 1:8 during busy times or holidays).
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Michigan.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, including experience within the last year.
- Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients.
- Certifications:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system.
Preferred Experience
- Experience with continuous IV sedation and procedural sedation administration.
- Triage experience.
- Open to first-time travel nurses.
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Valid Driver’s License/State ID and Social Security Card.
- Background checks including:
- 7-year Social Security Number Trace
- National Criminal History Search (7 years)
- National Sex Offender Database Search
- FACIS Level 3 Search
- Education verification and transcript/diploma as applicable
- E-Verify, EPLS/GSA/SAM, and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of assignment start.
- Physical exam within 12 months, noting latex sensitivity.
- Immunizations and health screenings:
- Tdap vaccine within 10 years or declination
- Negative 2-step TB test or Qgold within 2 months (or chest x-ray if positive)
- MMR immunity (2 vaccines or titers)
- Hepatitis B immunity or vaccination series or declination
- Varicella immunity (2 vaccines or titers)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination (required during flu season)
- Drug screening: 10-panel drug test including THC within 30 days of start (no medical marijuana cards or dilute screens accepted).
- N95 Fit Mask test within 12 months, updated annually.
- Facility-specific modules and orientation safety manual acknowledgment required prior to or at orientation (modules not billable).
- Competency exams including medication/pharmacology and unit-specific exams (no expiration).
- References: 2 from previous employers.
- Resume with 7-year work history and skills checklist required.
Additional Notes
- No Return to Office (RTO) requests allowed for July; RTO must be submitted at time of application.
- Locals are accepted with same pay as travelers.
- Modules must be completed prior to starting on the floor; orientation attendance allowed if modules are delayed but no patient care until completion.
- High acuity environment with potential for high patient ratios.

- Not required; unit accepts first-time travelers.
