Radiologic Technologist / Mammographer - Contract Position
Location: Wrangell, Alaska

Job Summary
The Radiologic Technologist/Mammographer is responsible for performing diagnostic imaging procedures across multiple modalities including radiography, mammography, ultrasound, MRI, and CT/interventional imaging. The role requires professional judgment in radiation protection, patient care, and quality assurance, with the ability to work with patients of all ages and cultural backgrounds.
Key Responsibilities
General Duties
- Perform radiographic and sonographic examinations for diagnostic interpretation.
- Maintain patient records and departmental files.
- Participate in quality assurance programs.
- Transfer patients to and from radiology.
- Rotate shifts and be available for on-call duties, reporting within 20 minutes if called.
- Assist with general hygiene of the department and self.
- Willingness to learn and perform duties in multiple imaging modalities (Ultrasound, MRI, CT, Mammography).
- Perform ancillary duties as assigned.
Mammography
- Perform breast needle localization, specimen radiography, quality control, screening, diagnostic mammograms, and stereotactic breast biopsy.
- Maintain required continuing education units (5 CEUs annually) and perform at least 100 mammograms per year as per ACR/FDA standards.
Ultrasound
- Perform requested diagnostic ultrasound exams.
- Pursue RDMS certification and continuing education.
- Care for ultrasound equipment and maintain a neat work area.
- Assist with ultrasound invasive procedures and policy development.
MRI
- Perform all requested MRI procedures and adapt to new studies.
- Care for MRI coils and equipment.
- Perform venipuncture and ensure magnet safety.
- Participate in quality control and cleaning procedures.
CT / Interventional
- Maintain CT/interventional equipment and records.
- Assist with invasive procedures and consult with referring physicians.
- Perform venipuncture and follow sterile techniques.
- Adjust protocols for pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric patients.
- Manage contrast administration and automatic injector setup.
- Participate in supply inventory and quality control.
Lead Technologist Duties (if applicable)
- Support Imaging Manager and Director in organizational goals.
- Manage workflow, staffing schedules, and staff concerns.
- Assist in hiring and orienting new staff.
- Serve as a clinical and technical resource for staff.

- Adolescent/Teenager (13 to 17 years)
- Young Adult (18 to 34 years)
- Middle Adult (35 to 50 years)

- Geriatric Adult (70+ years)
Requirements
Education & Certification
- Current ARRT certification in Radiography OR
- Current ARDMS certification in one category (Abdomen or OB/GYN)
- BLS certification required within 45 days of start
- Clinical competency required within 3 months of hire and every three years
Experience & Skills
- Ability to perform all diagnostic exams related to assigned modality.
- Tech I: ARRT or ARDMS in one modality (e.g., general radiography or one RDMS category).
- Tech II: ARRT (CT, MR, MG, NM) or ARDMS certified in two modalities/categories.
- Knowledge of radiation safety, patient care, and imaging protocols.
- Ability to work under stress and adapt to multiple imaging modalities.
Additional Information
- Must provide 2 fingerprint cards upon acceptance of position.
- Must be willing to take call and report to work within 20 minutes.
- Must maintain competency in ancillary imaging modalities.
- Must be able to work with patients and staff from diverse cultural and religious backgrounds.
- Position requires adherence to ethics and compliance programs.
- Must live at least 50 miles away from the facility to be eligible for this traveler position.
- No housing or travel accommodations provided.
Certifications Preferred or Required
- ACLS, BLS/BCLS, PALS, NRP (preferred or required depending on assignment)
