Job Description

• Responsible for inpatient pharmacy pharmaceutical services including procurement, distribution, storage, and administration of drugs by appropriate staff.
• Ensure pharmacy services comply with all State and Federal regulations.
• Review all inpatient medication orders for appropriateness and correctness to ensure safe and effective use.
• Identify and verify all patients' home medications prior to use in the facility.
• Maintain pharmaceuticals, specialty boxes, and crash carts across the facility.
• Maintain quality assurance, security of controlled substances, and disposal of hazardous waste drugs.
• Maintain pharmacy and inventory systems.
• Resolve drug discrepancies promptly.
• Maintain records of procurement, dispensing, and destruction of pharmaceuticals, including scheduled substances as required by California pharmacy law.
• Maintain ordering, billing, and invoice records for pharmaceutical acquisition and dispensing.
• Complete administrative tasks related to record keeping, compliance, and license maintenance on time.
• Provide weekend coverage for emergency medication dispensing during shifts.
• Serve as on-call pharmacist after hours on days worked.
• Assist with pharmacy licensure issues as needed.
• Recommend methods of accountability and implementation of pharmaceutical services policies and procedures.
• Provide drug information to other healthcare professionals.
• Maintain Pharmacy Services Policy and Procedure Manual to comply with legal and accreditation standards.
• Help realize cost savings through correct purchasing procedures utilizing a drug formulary program.
• Serve as Pharmacist in Charge of the hospital pharmacy.

Required Qualifications

• Inpatient pharmacy experience within the last 3 years is required.
• Valid pharmacist license in California.
