Job Opportunity: RN (Registered Nurse) - Surgical Acute
Location: Peoria, Illinois

Unit Details
- Department: Surgical Acute
- Beds: 63 total (49 private, 9 observation)
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
- Days: 4-5 patients per RN
- Nights: 5-6 patients per RN
- Charge Nurses: 2 per shift, do not take patient assignments
- House Supervisor: Available 24/7
- Patient Care Techs (PCTs):
- Days: 7-10 patients per PCT
- Nights: 10-15 patients per PCT
- Duties: Vitals, accu checks, ADLs, turning, ambulation
- Telemetry: Yes, Phillips monitors; RNs do not read strips (monitor techs handle this)
- Respiratory Therapy Equipment: CPAP and high flow managed by RT; RNs manage inhalers and can place patients on CPAP
- No ventilator management required by RNs
Shift & Scheduling
- Day Shift: 07:00 - 19:30
- Night Shift: 19:30 - 07:30
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday)
- Holiday Requirement: Rotate every other holiday
- Call/Standby: None
- Floating: Travelers float first, only to units matching their experience level; ICU RNs floating to general units take a team of 3 patients
- Block scheduling may be considered with prior approval
- Travelers do not self-schedule
Orientation
- Unit-specific orientation: 2 shifts with preceptor
- Additional 12-hour shift for EPIC, professional orientation, and unit educator
Patient Population & Care
- Common Diagnoses/Types of Patients:
- Post-op surgical
- Trauma
- Overflow medical
- Common Procedures & Skills:
- Dressing changes
- Wound care
- IV therapy
- Pain management
- Management of drains, NG tubes, central lines, TPN
- Post-op care experience required
- Critical thinking and good bedside manner essential
- Team player attitude required
- RNs do not titrate drips except for Heparin
Certifications & Licenses
- Required: BLS (AHA)
- Active Illinois nursing license or proof of application required
- Drug-free campus: Negative drug screen required
Additional Notes
- Local placements accepted within a 50-mile radius
- Orientation hours (12 hours) are non-billable
- OSF Call Off Policy: Equivalent of 12 hours every 13 weeks with no penalty or need to pay for the shift
- Scrub color/dress code: Any color; scrubs not provided
